KOH fell fd SENIORS ACTIVITIES SCHOOL LIFE SPORT MISS TURNBULL lt is with deep affection and keen appreciation that we co-dedicate this year's M annual to Miss Margaret Turnbull. She is one of the pioneers of Mechanic Arts and by her untiring efforts was responsible, in part, for making it a success. Her decision to retire this spring was o shock to us all. Although she has well earned the rest, we shall miss her, not only as a splendid teacher and an inspirational leader but as a beloved friend. Miss Turnbull, who is a graduate of Macalester College, has taught English at Me- chanic Arts since l9l8 and she was the senior class advisor for the class of 1924. Miss Turnbull has always been friendly, patient, unselfish and ready to extend an encouraging word to her students. l am not only speaking from my own experience but for the entire student body and faculty, for we are certainly proud to be one of her friends. We would all like to thank her publicly for her outsanding piece of work while at Mechanic Arts High School. Page three Page four MR. SITZER To our true friend and beloved teacher, Mr. Sitzer, We co-dedicate this 1952 annual. You, Mr. Sitzer, have brightened our tour years at MA through your untiring efforts to bring the best in visual education. From these films we have gained a broader education, one that could never have been obtained tram textbooks. Aside from your contributions to the student body, we shall alvvays remember you for your anecdotes, your friendliness, and your wonderful sense ot humor. To you, Mr. Sitzer we, the graduating class ot '52 wish the best ot everything-health luck and happiness. My. We, the seniors, are soon to take part in what we have worked four years to obtain, graduation. Then the wonder- ful days at Mechanics will only be memories. On looking back we cannot help but realize how much these years have meant to us. The suspense of winning a football game, the excitement of exams, the thrill of going to the prom, and finally the dignified importance of being a senior, all make graduating a little harder. -ws.. w. ........,..- ,M 4 .Mr .. iw? , W., , . Two ot the top activities in anybody's Junior Year are the Junior Vodvil, and the Junior-Senior Prom As in other years, many new student talents were discovered and presented in the Junior Vodvil, which was held this year April 25. May 24, was the night for the big Junior-Senior Prom. This event, which is looked forward to, by a great share ot the upperclassmen, was held at the Calhoun Beach Club. This is the time when boys and girls get all duked up and have themselves a real fine time while their parents are wondering when Judy cr John is going to get home. This energetic and progressive class has shown by it's initiative this year, what fine Seniors they will make next year. With the splendid talent' displayed in the Junior Vodvil, and the leadership qualities developed this year, the class is armed with all it takes to make its senior year successful. We seniors look back on all that you are now looking forward to. Things like choosing a Home- coming Queen, the Cogwheel Cupid Service, Foot- ball games, College Aptitude test, and the Senior Picnic. We the class of '52 leave our place ot leader- ship to you, the class ct '53, with our gcod wishes tor a successful year. Page twenty-fi ve Helpers ENGLISH 10 Row 'l: J. Stowrnan, M. Hermmel, H. Many boys throughout their high school days participate in some sports and these sports mould a foundation of good sportsmanship and leadership for tomorrow's world. Whether they play the maior sports such as basketball, baseball, or football, or in the minor ones including track, golf, or swimming they are all helpful. To participate and become a leading figure in these activities is every boy's dream. It is an honor and a challenge, for these boys must carry on the great traditions of sportsmanship and playing abilities set for them by their predecessors. Our athletes work hard at winning a victory for our school. Good luck or bad luck, our teams learn good sportsmanship, cooperation and team work which will always be of value to them. Football Mechanic Arts had a better than average grid season winning 4, losing 3 and tieing l. M. A. made a strong start against Harding's team and led them for all but the last two minutes when they scored on a very tired M. A. team and won 7 to 6. The following week the Trainers defeated Monroe 6 to O. Wilson was next for the Trainers with the Redmen losing 20 to O in one of M. A.'s finest games. The following week M. A. was defeated 18 to 6 by Anoka in the sloppiest game of the season for both teams. After that the Trainers couldn't get going and tied Johnson 6 to 6, lost to Central I2 to O, and lost to Murray 20 to O. Finally, in the Homecoming game, M. A. hit the comeback trail and beat Marshall T2 to O in a well played ball game. The following week the Trainers romped over Washington T8 to 0 in the season finale. Two boys placed on the All-City team. They were Mike Knight at quarterback and Herb Bennett at tackle. Page sixty-five MA's A and B Gridders FOOTBALL A Row 1: D. Doane, H. Ballard, C. Scroggins, R.
