ring 7 The smoothness of the running of the school is due to the administrative department, under the capable guidance of Mr. J. W. Smtih, principal. lt is his duty to represent the school and make the decisions. Mr. Leslie Tripp, our assistant principal has the iob of checking on skippers, and among other things making out the programs. The school secretary is Miss Viever- ing, who operates the office, sends out notices and takes letters. The iob of making out the Senior honor roll and keeping track of the credits falls on the shoulders of Miss Grace McGuire, registrar. If you have a cold, headache, or sprained ankle, Mrs. Verna Goneau, school nurse, is the person to see. Miss Josephine Kelp, our capable librarian, is a friend in need to all MA students who need books for reports, assign- ments, or for iust recreation. Dean of girls, Miss Katherine Tschida, kindly and sympathetic, helps girls find jobs they like, plans for the future, and smooths out the present. Pepsi-Cola scholarships, college entrance examina- tions, and placement tests are given by Miss Edna Gould, head of the testing bureau. Most of the Seniors have had one of the following teachers this year: Probably the teacher whom the Seniors will never forget is Miss May Kellerhals, their advisor. Miss Mary Copley, iournalism and Senior English teacher, and the advisor of the Cogwheel and 'M', is some one else whom the Seniors will remember. Senior English teachers also are: Miss Margaret Turnbull, chairman of the English department at MA, Miss Clare Steffanus, and Miss Helen Scully -helpful all. Our two science profs are Mr. Harry Wolcott, physics instructor, and Mr. John Griffin, chemistry instructor. The iob of enlightening the Seniors on social problems, current events, and the elements it takes to make a good citizen are taught by Mr. Frank O'Rourke, who is also our football coach, and Mrs. Lavinia Gilson, radio workshop instructor, Junior advisor, and circulation manager of the Cogwheel. Credit for making good oFfice workers out of many of the Seniors goes to Miss Vera Strickler, who is also treasurer of the Cogwheel, and Miss Gladys Smith, business manager of the 'M'. Miss Frances Ek, our mathematical wizard, teaches formulas, theorums and square roots by the dozen to our group of math geniuses. Miss Ek also has charge of the school bookstore, where school supplies are on sale. Mechanic Arts also boasts of having under its roof the Girls' Vocational School, where trades, including power sewing, Cosmetology, and business training are taught. Mrs. Mabel Wauchope, related training teacher is coordinator for the school. When you walk into Mrs. Juanita Beard's classroom, you think that you are entering a modern beauty shop, and that's just what it is. Mrs. Florence Hall, trade business teacher, teaches the girls the art of operating business machines. The apparel arts class is another very interesting room. Here under the guidance of Mrs. Alberta Quirk, the girls are taught how to sew articles on power machines. Grateful thanks also goes to the other teachers, who have guided the Seniors through their earlier years. They are: ' Mr. Kitzberger, band and choir teacher, Miss Grant, English teacher, Mr. Adams, boys' gym teacher, Mrs. Ransier, girls' gym teacher, Mr. Shirck, auto essentials, and safety, Mr. Olson, art, Mr. Souther, social studies, Miss Rohrer, social studies, Miss Kelly, algebra, Mr. Wilkinson, wood shop, Miss O'Brien, English and Latin, Mr. Larson, welding, Mrs. Watson, English, Miss Blase, social studies and bookkeeping, Mr. Nobis, bookkeeping. Mr. Sitzer, mechanical drawing, Miss Garrity, home economics, Miss Smith, English and math, Miss Swift, English, Miss Bumgardner, homemaking, Miss Bergl, world history and social studies, Miss Billings, Spanish, Miss Bolt, American history, Miss Moosbrugger, English, Mr. Sundberg, American history, Mrs. Eldridge, American history, Mr. Krueger, American history and German, Miss Schroer, typing. Two teachers who work together throughout the year to present interesting and enjoyable assemblies are Mrs. Lavinia Gilson, of the dramatic depart- ment and Mr. George Olson, director of the stage. Mr. Shirck and the winners of the safety slogan contest discuss their chances in the State contest. Miss Margaret Turnbull and Miss Helen Scully discuss procedure for the annual Spelling Contest, The four class advisors: Miss May Kellerhals, Senior, Mrs. Lavinia Gilson, Junior, Miss Nelly Kelly, Sophomore, and Joyce Tinge with one of her Freshman representatives. Taking charge of the 'M' finances are Miss Gladys Smith, Lita Seghieri and Ferna Kottke.
