BOY SCOUTS The Boy Scouts were organized in March, 1945, through the efforts of Mr. .Take Walbring, and were sponsored by a group of businessmen. Harold Harpold was appointed Scout Master. The Troop is Troop 68, Mecca, in the Wabash Valley Council. We have had several camparees and contests in which our patrol was winner. The boys have advanced rapidly and most are out of the Tender Foot Rank. Several are Life Scouts. Twenty boys are active in the Troop and thirty names are on the membership list. The Troop Committee consists of : Mr Elbert Hutson, Mr. Fames McDermott, Mr. Claude Baldwin, and Mr. Henry Stutler. Richard McDermott is assistant Scout Master and Mr. James W. Conlin is Chairman of the Troop Committee. GIR L SCOUTS The Girl Scouts, Troop Number 1, was organized November 1, 1945, by Mrs. Fannie Walbring. The Troop has since been under the supervision of Mrs. Talma Doyne Smith. The Troop has enjoyed one camping trip, several hikes, and a number of parties. Several of the girls have advanced to Second Class Scouts and have received their membership stars. They are: Nell Rose Brown Peggy Capps Carolyn Chaplain Dixie Maurey Loretta Williams .Toan Clayton Patty Andrew Those girls working on their Second Class Rating are: Esther Smith June Stevens Esther Mae Doan Shirley Wittenmyer Barbara Myers Catherine Capps Mrs. Violet Williams and Mrs. Rachel McArty are Assis- tant Troop Leaders. The Troop Committee is composed of Mrs. Lila Smith, Mrs Lucille Kendall, and Mrs. Stella Vincent.

SOCIAL AND SOCIETY NEWS Under the direction of Mrs. Mendenhall, the school gave the Christmas program for the Parent Teachers Club at the December meeting. Songs: Songs! Cantata A play, Song: The program was as follows: Jolly Old St. Nicholas by Beverley Myers Winter Wonderland by Mary Catherine LaPreeS, Peggy Walters, and Elizabeth Haughee Peggy Staggs at the piano. Star Of The East by Patty Hoke, and Wanda and Marie Cunningham. Chorus In The Skies by the Girls Chorus grades 8, 9, and 10. White Christmas Girls Chorus Santa Claus is Corning To Town Girls-grade 6. Santa's Last Stop, by the seventh grade. All Aboard for Santa Claus by the seventh grade. Betty Toney and Warren Eubanks were elected king and queen of Mecca High School for 1946-47. Rosemary Murphy, Norma Jean LaPrees, and Sonia Hodge visited Joan Murphy, and Sue Maurey at the Indiana State Teachers College. They attended the Campus Review. Sonia Hodge, who has been a member of this school for ten and one half years, has now moved to Florida. There were two fall carnivals this year, one spon- sored by the P.T.C. and the other by the school. The Senior class nominated Rosemary Murphy, Mary Jane Nowling, and Betty Toney to take a test given by the Daughters of American Revolution. Out of the three the faculty chose Mary Jane to represent Mecca High School. The Senior class attended the State Legislature, broad- casting station, and the Indianapolis News Plant the twelfth of February.
