In Witness Whereof, We have hereto subscribed our names and affixed our seal this seventeenth day of April, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-Seven. SENIOR CLASS PR OPHECY One rainy spring morning in 1960, I was browsing about my office in New York when my secretary entered saying that a very impressive looking gentleman wished to see me. He claimed he was an old friend. Of course, many persons tried to gain audience with me through this alibi and I was somewhat inclined to disbelieve it, however, I had Kilroy, the secretary, show him in. As the stranger entered, wearing an old red sweater with a dirty white M on it, I remembered. Why it's Howard. What brought you here? I asked. Well, he replied, my wife and I decided to get out a book on the doings of all our old classmates, what they were doing, you know. We did, and I am going around selling them. They are only two dollars - - -I ---------- ' ' And how is Madonna? Madonna? he repeated blankly. Oh, didn't you hear? She jilted me and entered the movies. The girl I married was Mary Jane. Well, well, I said brightly, though I was dazed, I'll buy a book and read it this morning. He handed it to me and left shortly afterward. The book was interestingg yes, indeed, and well written. Howlit re- minded me of those carefree, youthful days ..... but that is all past. Here is a few things it said: W 1 . I 4 O n 1 n I I I Senior Class Prophecy QCont.l Pat Cooke is now a nurse in Chicago. She is planning to marry John Secondino soon. The celebrated speaker, Joan Guoli, has her own station now. Rosemary Harmon is teaching social studies in Terre Haute where her husband, John Haughee is coach. Norma Jean LaPrees is married to Joe Walter Murphy. She has twin gir1s. A complete school of music has been founded by Rosemary Murphy It is located at her home in Washington D. C. Donald Haughee is a basket-ball coach in Greencastle. Bob Harpold was graduated from Rose Poly, and is ,now with a large engineering company in Washington. Marka Richardson is living a quiet life with her husband, David Presslor, and children. Betty Toney was graduated from beauty college and now has her own shop in Springfield, Illinois. . Betty Rae Walters was graduated from Indiana State, and has been teaching in Rockville for the past six years. Bob Murphy has bought a small restaurant in Clinton, but is on the verge of bankruptcy because he enjoys eating. Fred Robertson was graduated from Purdue, and is now one of the largest farmers in the Wabash Valley. , Bennie Morlan has opened a printing office 'in Mecca where he pub- lishes the Mecca Gazette once a week. p Bill Wolfe is a boss in one of the canning factories in Virginia. William Myers is helping Bennie with the Mecca Gazette. Ted McArty has just completed his internship at Metnodist Hos- pital in Indianapolis and expects to begin his practice in Mecca soon. I was glad to hear of my friendsg certainly I was relieved that their high school training had stood them in such good stead. i L I v i i i , i I 2 s r I . 1 I I r i I I . We're all shapes and sizes, Twenty in allg Pleased will be the teachers When we don't return this fall. We've got our names 'bout every place In this school house so dear, Just a memory to the others That we were once here. First comes Donnie Who's very alertg She always looks her best And does she love to flirt? He doesn't drive like a turtle He doesn't drive like a hare It's just Tubby Collier and his car Giving everyone a scare. Popping and cracking Sounds like a drum But don't get me wrong It's just Pat and her gum. There's Ioan Guoli Who tries to be dignified: Flirts with all the Sophomore boys But casts most girls aside. Rosemary Harmon Very studious and smart Whenever John Haughee's present Pitter, patter, goes her heart. Talking and sputtering He's going to be an engineerg 'That's Bob Harpold Working his brain for a career. Next comes Donald Haughee Who really likes to study The only trouble with Hamburger-- His mind is slightly muddy. , I n r Betty Joan Hoke Very quiet and still Causes no trouble For that's against her will. She comes from Rabbit Town And is pretty mean Does lots of giggling That's just natural for Norma Next in line is Ted Lois is his flame He can do most anything But never gets the blame. Benjamin Lige Morlan Envies tall handsome men For he was the little squirt That his mom named Ben . One of the best players On our basketball team Is Bob Murphy Who really turns on the steam. Now there's a little girl About the smallest in the class That's Rosemary Murphy Who's a steady little lass. She likes to laugh And, oh, so quiet: That's Mary Jane Nowling Who never causes a riot. Now there's Marka Jo Who bought glasses But she always has As she twists down the aisle. Freddy Jo speaks so distinctly And really is polite But he's going to be a farmer. For that is his delight. She was elected Queen of '47 By members of our Class lt's Betty Toney we're speakin A pretty little lass. .Tean just for style them in her hand gof I 1 I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I i I I I I I I I I I I Betty R. Walters has a sweet disposition A11 the teachers like her, too: Cause she doesn't cause them trouble Or tell them what to do. Here's the Wolfe of the Senior Class Who never has much to say That's Bill we're speaking of He's that way most every day. Oh yes, there's William Myers Who's got around quite fastg We are very proud to say I-Ie's graduating with our class. None of us are sad But some are blue That we have to leave school And find some work to do. We'l1 miss our classmates And the loafing we've done But I guess there comes a time When we've got to quit this fun. We've really appreciated The things that's been done for us And we thank the teachers For patiently enduring our fuss. Our regards to Mr. Conlin Who was sponsor of our class May his patience with our antics Find recompence in next year's class. I I I I I I i I . I I I L I I SENIOR CLASS HIS TOR Y The Senior Class of 1947 started its long climb up the ladder of education twelve years ago in September of 1935 when they entered the primary room, under the direction of Miss Carrington. Since then several new members have come in and many have withdrawn from the class. Of the thirty- four who started twenty-two now hold the title of Senior. The freshman year was especially enjoyable because of the success of our high school basketball team which went to the final game in the Sectional. Marka Jo Richardson was one of the yell leaders for that year. The class offi- cers for the year were as follows: President, Joe Harrison: Vice President, Patty Cooke: Secretary, Norma Jean LaPrees: and Treasurer, Rosemary Murphy. During the eight months of the school year the freshmen held two class parties at the high school. Our Sophomore Class was decreased by three members dur ing this year. Mrs. Yocum was selected as the sponsor. Our class enjoyed one party during the first semester of that year. Marka Jo Richardson was again elected one of the high school basketball yell leaders. The class officers for the year were as follows: President, Joe Harrison: Vice Presi- dent, Patty Cooke: Secretary, Norma Jean LaPrees: and Treas- urer, Rosemary Murphy. The junior year was the high-light of the entire ten years. The class officers for the years were as follows: President, Joe Harrison: Vice President, Patty Cooke: Secre- tary, Norma Jean LaPrees: and Treasurer, Rosemary Murphy, Mr. J.C. Walbring was chosen as the class sponsor. The class spent the year making money for the Junior and Senior Prom to be held in the spring. Money was obtained by sell- J ing of pop, ice cream, popcorn, pins, and chances on a cake. Several members of the class put on the play, Aunt Tillie Goes to Town the funds of which also went for the Prom. April 17th was the date set by the Juniors for the big event. Several members of the class spent three days decorating the gym in gay colors of red and white, which are also the school colors. In order to make it more attractive the crepe paper was twisted in a barber pole manner. Other decorations con- sisted of colorful Japanese lanterns and balloons were tied in bunches at the ceiling. During the evening these balloons were dropped in order that everyone could have a souvenir. This Prom was considered the best Mecca students ever pre- sented, The yell leaders for the year were Patty Cooke, Norma Jean LaPrees, and Madonna Carroll, all of the Junior Class. Senior Class History fCont.Q The senior year, the last, has been a very enjoyable one. However, most all of us are willing to change courses now and try something different. The class officers for the year are: President, Donald Haughee: Vice President, Patty Cooke, Secre- tary, Norma Jean LaPreesg and Treasurer, Rosemary Murphy. Mr. J.W. Conlin was chosen as the class sponsor for the year. Joe Harrison left for the Army three weeks after school started in September. However, he is taking a correspondence course and will earn his credits and receive his diploma later we hope. The Senior Class presented the play Feudin' in the Hills. Those on the annual staff have found it very hard to get the work out in such a short time as they have had. However, we hope the seniors next year will get started on their annual sooner and have a much better one. There are eleven boys and eleven girls waiting to receive their diplomas in April.
