Claire Rideout is keenly interested in Joe Hurdle and Van Rascoe's identification of solutions by use of the flame test in V chemistry. Biology and chemistry students catch her enthusiasm for the wonders of science. She is also the spirited sponsor of the Science Club and the cheerleaders. I 4 i ! n Mr. Claude Dover, jr. attended Elon College where he received his A. B. degree. In the class- room, physics and general science are his field. Outside the classroom, students know him as the girls' basketball coach and sponsor for the Teen-age Club.

The Social Science Department through the study of history, civics, economics, and sociology seeksto give students an appreciation of their hertiage, an under- standing of their environment, the qualifications of good citizenship, and the skills for adjusting to life's problems. Mr. Elbert Lake received his A. B. degree from Elon College and his M. Ed. from U. N. C. U. S. history, world history, civics, and geography are his classroom specialties, while outside the classroom he is advisor for the Student Council and for the Junior- Senior Prom. for F.T. A. class. -...M ,Ng jerry jobe lists his home town industries at the black- board as part of a survey made of Mebane by the civics Socio! Studies. . .Guide for Mankind Mrs. Margaret Warren received her A. B. degree from Greensboro College. She teaches English and finds time to encourage others to follow her profession by acting as sponsor Mrs. Bobbye Hildebrand has an A. B. degree from I f Guilford College and a M. Ed. from Temple University. 'I A.-A Teaching world history and Civics are on her schedule as well as serving as guidance cotmselor to many of the students. 10 P 1 ffnfm

Lennie Harris, Evon Oakley and LaRue Dandridge cheerfully wash the dishes after apractice luncheon in the Home Economics Depart- ment. Better Homes Through Home Economics Nothing is more important to young girls than learning how to be a good homemaker. In home economics at M. H. S. girls are offered courses in sewing, cooking, child care, budgeting, and good grooming. Mrs Jane Ross lectures her class on the fine art of sewing a straight seam She is a graduate of East Carolina College and has a B. S. degree in home econonucs. For fouryears Mrs. Caroline McAdams has instructed young girls in homemaking tasks of the future. She is a graduate inhome econom- ics from W. C.U.N.C- and sponsor of the F.I-I.A. Club. 12
