Mrs. Mae Edla Shaw enjoys teaching French prontmciation with the tape recorder. She is also a senior English teacher and sponsor of the Honor Society. She has an A. B. degree from W. C. U. N. C. Mrs. Kitty I-Iupman enjoys teaching literature to freshmen. She is agraduate of Meredith College and has an A. B. degree in English. Longuoge for Commumcotion Latin may be a dead language to some people, but to Chuck Oakley and Martha Weiss there's a real thrill in their first foreign language. Miss Marie Tyson makes a composition assignment to the junior class. She teaches junior English and is sponsorofthe FURMACOTTO. She is a graduate of W.C. U.N.C. and has an A.B. degree. The basic essential for communication of all ideas is the language used. Through the study of English, Latin, and French, students in our school are offered an opporttmity to improve their own self-expression and enrich their appreciation of the thoughts of men of all countries. 8

Moth for Logic: Mrs. Hattie Abernethy attended Lenoir Rhyne College where she received an A. B. degree. From her, students realize the importance of algebra, geometry, and general math. Mrs. Merle Riggs has an A. B. degree from W. C. U. N. C. With the help of the over-he ad projector she inspires advanced math students to master trigonometry. From her, students discover Latin, enjoy the creativity of dramatics, and are guided to better student government. Seniors, Lennie Harris and Monty Freshwater, operate the slide rule to demonstrate their progress in trigonometry. In order to meet the needs of all students, the Mathe- matics Department at Mebane High School is divided into two parts. The first is practical math for use by students in daily problems and the second, advanced math for those students planning to continue their education on the college level. 9 Mr. Cecil Caison received his B.
