Miss Adelaide deMaison A saw. 'Naam Q 'tht f gf, af 1:-jf af 229 . Adelaide deMaison, head of the English Department of the Meadville Area High School, was last year selected as Teacher of the Year on the Secondary Level by the Northwestern District Convention of the P. S. E. A. One of ten teachers nominated by state departments of education in all parts of the nation, she was named to Mc Call's Honor Roll of Teachers. Miss deMaison has given inspiration to teachers and pupils alike. Inside the classroom, her desire for perfection and her interest in the students motivate her teaching. Evidence of her success at the twelfth grade level is shown by the high rank achieved by her students in col- lege placement tests. She has shown interest in her field as related to the whole school curriculum. The forensic program of the high school has been developed under her direction, and her debaters have been state champions. Outside the classroom, Miss deMaison has served on evaluation com- mittees and has acted as chairman of P. S. E. A. groups as well as the first Crawford County Workshop. A civic-minded citizen and participant in all prominent community functions and activi- ties, she has been an enthusiastic planner, leader, and worker. Miss deMaison's enthusiasm, progressiveness, and untiring energy serve as a stimulus to all who work with her. Her skill in human relations, scholarship, optimistic point of view, and sparkl- ing personality make her the master teacher. And gladly would Cslhe learn, and gladly teach. Miss deMaison is pre- sented the Teacher of the Year award by Dr. Charles Miller and Rob- ert Trace. 3 THE OLD ORDER CHANGETH. YIELDING PLACE T0 NEW Morte d'Arthur by Alfred, Lord Tennyson i lim! E F This spring marks not only the end of the 1957-58 school term but also the end of an era in the history of the Meadville Area High School. With the construction of the new senior high building, the present high school will take on a new phase in the educational system of the district. To the old building, we bid a reluctant farewell as we say with Shakespeare, Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety. As we add another chapter to the Bulldog book, we wish to honor the high school building and all it represents to us. 4 wk ADMINISTRATION The things taught in schools and colleges are not an education, but the means of education. Coach Duff brought with him the new split-T system. Bill Peters took over the all- important quarterback duties and shouldered them well. Will-o-the-wisp Walley Brown and Larry Gould, the boy with the golden toe, played offensive halves, with Lenny Cerrato at fullback. On the line Arrigan and Dunnan were at the terminalsg Camasi and Hollern, at the tacklesg Cribbs and McBride, in the guard slotsg and Dave Bovard anchored the line at center. Setting a 9-0 record, the sparkling Mead- ville defense refused to permit any opposing team to score a PAT. The history makers were co-champions with Titusville for Sec- tion II honors and also captured District 10. Thus the season ended with the gridders averaging 25 points per tiff and allowing their opponents only 4.5 points per game. jf fff f ,a ft 'EHAMF99 .41 Bnnllllll '- 'Il if if 8 I, lil. if 3' VY: H I Junior Varsiiy MHS Opponent 7 Saegertown 24 6 Neshanock 8 12 Randolph 27 6 Franklin 19 26 Corry 6 iGreenville :kSharpsville cancelled LSI! f fig SEASON RECORD we A 5-3 Industrial Bowl Queens Judy Hild, Diana Craggs, Dede Allen, and Judy Ferry presented the trophy to co- captains Bill Peters and Tom Arrigan on November 2, 1957. 41. Unlimited Some people say that there are not as many opportunities in America today as there were a generation ago. They are wrong . . . dead wrong. In spite of the amazing advances we have made in technology and invention, America's opportunities are still multiplying. Look around you! Americans are never satisfied -- they will always Want more. Somewhere in the class of 1958 there may well be the student who will some day solve the horror of cancer, or design a brand new kind of atomic engine, or discover the secret of life itself. Equally important, there are expanding opportunities for this generation in all types of employment. The opportunities . . . and their rewards . . . will go to the graduates who are willing to meet the challenges of a dynamic, expanding America. American Viscose Corporation extends its best wishes to the class of 1958. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION Meadville, Pennsylvania 4 4 Refreshing remembrance W, WH, , , Y '!5.
