FAREWELL TO THE SENIORS . . . You step, on June 8. into a new world complete with vast possibilities for useful- ness and enjoyment. However, on June 9 you will find that you are again a freshman. Life will be your school. Education is not founded on the idea that in a few brief years it can give to everyone all the knowledge needed for a useful and interesting life. ln fact, most educators realize that high schools should last at least two years longer to provide even for the bare necessities of vocational competence. For cultural competence and the ability to think calmly and efficiently about one's problems of adjustment, a whole lifetime of study is required. The public schools have done their best for you for twelve years. The sponsors of your education ask in return only a freshened, invigorating addition to the citizen- ship of a great nation. With all the theories and doctrines espoused for curing its economic ills, the government of a free people depends always upon its informed, ambitious but considerate school graduates. The provision for twelve years of school- ing involves this responsibility for good citizenship. One senior class has attained notoriety by the motto G'W. P. A., here we comela' However, the records show for our graduates a far better fate. Your economic adjust- mcnt, wherever you are, will be a measure of your zeal, sincerity, and ability. The school looks to you, personally, to carry out the fine record of its graduates in this respect.
