The Book of Memories Youth stands before a precipice, And bending o'er, looks down, Views eagerly the distant scene, Of future fame and past renown. The future lies before him With all its charm and lure, And yet he hesitates to leap, For the footing is not sure. He calls to mind his high-school days, And sadly dwells upon The carefree hours so gayly spent, And the happy days now gone. To-morrow holds adventure, It needs enthusiasm, His spirit boundsfand yet withdraws, How wide, how deep the chasm! Some far-off voice intervenes, To life you must succumb, Look backward in the past no more, Time for that in years to comef, Fear and doubt have Hed before A courage newly found, A book of memories in his hand, He takes the leap profound. The hook of memories, yes, his annual, Which now he holds but lightly, Will some day something precious be, Which he will treasure rightly. One far-off day in years to come, Will be a time he'll backward look, Recall the past, regain his youth, By looking through his old year-book. .A
