VVHITING The Book of Memories Youth stands before a precipice, And bending o'er, looks down, Views eagerly the distant scene, Of future fame and past renown. The future lies before him With all its charm and lure, And yet he hesitates to leap, For the footing is not sure. He calls to mind his high-school days, And sadly dwells upon The carefree hours so gayly spent, And the happy days now gone. To-morrow holds adventure, It needs enthusiasm, His spirit boundsfand yet withdraws, How wide, how deep the chasm! Some far-off voice intervenes, To life you must succumb, Look backward in the past no more, Time for that in years to comef, Fear and doubt have Hed before A courage newly found, A book of memories in his hand, He takes the leap profound. The hook of memories, yes, his annual, Which now he holds but lightly, Will some day something precious be, Which he will treasure rightly. One far-off day in years to come, Will be a time he'll backward look, Recall the past, regain his youth, By looking through his old year-book. .A GRADUATES of 1936 NEIL ACKERMAN Anticipated achievement: Hunting in Africa. More than 50 candidates reported to Coach Al Bender at the beginning of the season but this number was gradually re- duced to about 25. The nucleus of the team was well balanced. Harry Holt, Carl Proud- foot, C. Siverling, Dave Swanson, W. Miller, and Dave Wagner hold the high spots of the team. F. Kalig, who last year set a new half-mile record, had transferred to Erie and was a candidate for Academy's team. Dave Swanson, a two-year letterman who specialized i11 the mile run, was the team's captain. Assisting Coach Bender in training the team were Paul Dreibelbis, in charge of distant runners and Carl Triola and Carey March, coaching the weight men. Mr. Bender is over-seeing the work of conditioning the sprinters and hurdlers. g 1936 TRACK SCHEDULE April 25. .Juniors, 601Qg Seniors, 592Qg Sophomores, 30g Freshmen, 4 May 2 ....... A A BASKETBALL. ,An inexperienced basketball team faced the 1936 season last December when the call was given, but nevertheless they won 13 of the 22 games played. The nine lettermen of the team are Joe Stolar- czyk, captain, Carl Proudfoot, Harry Holt, Joe Kearney, Nellie Grinnell, Bob Carlson, Harry Har- gett, Dale Marley, and J im Baldwin. Only two of the above men are lost by graduation, Stolarczyk and Baldwin. The rest will be with us next year. GQO FOOTBALL The Meadville Hi Bulldogs had a good season this year. They came through the ten-game sched- ule with only two defeats and one tie. At the first of the season, the experts said that they would do good if they could win half of their games. Although defeated by Sharon, 13-7, in the final game deprived them of the N.P.l.A.A. title, the team captured the Crawford-Venango area title. They outclassed Titusville, Franklin, and Oil City, the other teams represented in the Crawford-Ven- ango area, to such an extent that none were able to score a point. This year's team was composed of Bill Keil- baugh, Harry Holt, Steve Lucasik, Howard Wid- mann, Victor Wojick, George Noblit, Joe Stolar- czyk, Howard Hart, Jimmy Zimmerman, Ralph Maltbie, and Carl Cheney.
