Class Prophecy On this day, September 1, 1960, I, Hat Hatkins, wish to tell the listening pub- lic of the many celebrities who are boarding the ‘‘Limited’’ at Meadowview to return to their chosen work. Passing by, with quick waves to the onlookers, are the two professional base- ball players, Curtis Sword and Harold Woodward. With them is the great foot- ball coach at Notre Dame, Charlie Johnson, whose team has not lost a game since he has been coaching. Behind the professionals, Paul McCray, the noted engineer of ‘‘natural bridges’’ enters. With him is the great politician, Billy Stephenson, who has absolutely promised to get money for McCray’s greatest engineering project, building a bridge across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Glancing toward a giggling group, I see the Home Economics teacher, Lena Walls, the Commercial teacher, Frances Belle Harrison, and the Physical Ed. teacher, Charlotte Hagy. All have excellent positions at Roosevelt University. Talking with them is that beloved Superintendent of Schools of Washington County, Irene Bowers. The two successful airplane mechanics, Carlous Callahan and William Dye, are leaving for highly paid jobs with the United Airlines. The efficient secretaries, Mariloys Riffey, Imogene Anderson, and Maebelle Grace, are with the noted dress designer, Bonnie Hutton, that petite miss who is know n internationally for her fantastic creations. Clyde Poston, the expert pilot, is getting aboard with the Midget Auto Racer, Clarence Henderson, and the truck driver, Eugene Poston. Lucille Estep, the criminal lawyer, climbs aboard with her secretary, Doro- thy Crenshaw. With them are Wanda Atkins, Lavinia Humphrey, and Evelyn Moore, all very pretty secretaries. Charlie Crenshaw, the scientific farmer, is with the famous dentist, Dr. Laddie Warriner, and the chemistry professor, John Talbert, who is proud of the great knowledge that he gained at Meadowview High School. Among these great personages is Ivan Crenshaw, the commercial artist. Last in the long line to the train are the nurses, who by far are not the least ones in their chosen field. In this distinguished group are Mary Ella Young, Doris Crosswhite, Loretta Pierce, and Mary Alice Wagner, the noted Navy Nurse. As the whistle blows and the train starts moving with its precious load, let me congratulate those of the Class of 1949-1950 for their success; and may they enjoy the fruits of their labor, always.
