Staff enjoys out ide acti ities A teacher is a teacher is a teacher, right? Perhaps, but Meadowdale's staff is made up of active, involved, and vital human beings. Many staff members enjoy outside activities such as fishing, camping, skiing, and travelling. Iere Cary and his family will go boating to Desolation Sound and the Canadian San luans this summer. They also will take a ferry to Skagway, Alaska and drive through the wilderness. Rod Waddell and his wife are planning a two-week trip into Canada on Honda motorcycles. Hal Youngren, Marilee Karnofski, Loa Hunter, and Shelley Rondeau played on the Edmonds District Bowling League. The Gourmet Club included many of our teachers and staff. They were Ellie Duckworth, Loa Hunter, lane Schmelzer, Marion Fyall, and Dolores Uhlman. An avid interest in biology has led Elizabeth Sears all over the world. In recent years she has travelled to Mongolia, Kenya, Tanzania, and the Calapegos Islands. The rare spiders she collected in Mongolia are now on display at the Burke Museum on the U. of W. campus. The annual Shakespearean Festival, in Ashland, Oregon, attracts Helen MacGilvra and Vicki Haynes. Mrs. Haynes was accompanied last summer by a group of interested students from her English classes. Ruth Torgeson directs a great deal of her attention and effort to an ecology group called the Main Task Force. It is involved in community efforts to protect and preserve the Lyons Creek area. Summer sailing and fishing on the waters of Puget Sound are the Mike Hilton family, the Bruce Cook family and Carole and Bill Doerschlag. Ron and Mary Bates are avid Northwest skiers when there's snow. Chuck LeWarne and his family are busy building a cabin on the ocean in southwest Washing- ton. Roberta and Bill Stady spend much of the summer at their cabin on Mason Lake. Water skiing and tennis take up many of the summer days for lack and Sue Eschrich. Nancy McCracken was paddling on the Yangtze River in China last summer. She is contemplat- ing a voyage on the Nile River in Egypt this coming summer.
