Musicians play a different tune The marching band strode smartly in 1980-1981 under new director,Mr. Burton. He was the first band director at Meadowdale and has had six years previous exper- ience. The 35-member band meets daily to rehearse and learn new material. But due to the small size of the group, marching was not as frequent as in past years. The marching band did perform at all home football games, playing fight songs to further inspire the already enthusi- astic crowds. The Stage Band, which is composed of the more ad- vanced musicians in Meadowdale's music program, was led by Mr. Burton this year. The band met every morn- ing to rehearse and perfect difficult pieces of music. The 20-member band also performed at games, community gatherings and events as well as in contests with stage bands from other high schools in the area. WWW v awww ,V i W ,, ,,,,, .W MM-, , . at Vg' ' :fl Y V Wmwm 46,4 Enthusiastic squad c eers teams to victor The 1980-81 cheersquad, with a healthy mix of experienced Seniors and enthusiastic luniors, kept school spirit running high in Meadowdale all through the year. With the guidance of Mrs. Doerschlag, the cheerleaders somehow managed to cover the myriad of girls' and boys' sports. They were always there, encouraging and heartening the participants and cheering the crowd. The girls also put much of their own time and effort into fund-raisers, Homecoming Week activities, and the plan- ningof pep assemblies throughout the year. 1. Halima introduces the football team to a spirited crowd at Homecoming. 2. Sherry Morse cleans her fingernails as Mrs. Uhlman brings out some im- portant points about the pep assembly. 3. We are M.H.S. 4. Bron makes her singing debut while introducing our baseball team. 5. Stephanie intent- ly watches a basketball game while waiting for a chance to cheer. Cheerleaders 129
