For three years the halls of MHS have known the vibrance of school love, pride and undying support, created and perpetuated by the class of '66. As sophomores, they entered a new building and made it a school of memories. Without pausing, they gathered momentum during their junior year and burst on the scene as seniors. The first class to have attended MHS for three years, theirs is the class which has given the most of their time, energy and SPIRIT. The football team has done a fine job this year. With only a few returning lettermen, FOOTBALL they managed to muster up many exciting quarters of football. The Chiefs started the season with a train full of rooters at Bellingham. Here they showed great potential everywhere except on the scoreboard. Their first score came in the game with Everett where John Fox threw a sixty yard touchdown pass to Ray Payne. Then, while on radio and in the heart of Seattle, their first victory was achieved in the O'Dea game. From there the spirit of victory was carried to the Terrace game and through Pep Week preceding the Homecoming game. The Chiefs did a commendable job of representing MHS on and off the field, and they carried the true Meadowdale spirit with them always. Through the enthusiasm and spirit shown by our pep squad, they are well deserving of the honors they have received. This year our industrious songleaders were Susie Knouse, Sherry Groves, Billie Alguard, and Barbie Brown. Our inspiring cheerleaders were Patty McCormick, Teri Williams, and Connie Klebaum. Homecoming Queen Princesses ..... Linda Misuida Sherry Groves This year’s Homecoming was marked by a special vibrance and air of enthusiasm at M.H.S. Countless stu- dents anxiously watched our fighting Chiefs battle the Edmonds Tigers in the last football game of the season. Then the excitement moved back to the school for the Homecoming dance. It was this year that Mead- owdale welcomed back its first group of Homecoming graduates. A warm feeling was carried through the evening as old friendships were renewed. Added splendor was given to the night with the coronation of the 1965 Homecoming court. The queen, Anne Lager, and her four princesses, Linda Misvida, Sherry Groves, Patty McCormick, and Teri Williams, exquisitely represented the active spirit alive in everyone at M.H.S. Patty McCormick Teri Williams Through its fine efforts, the International Relations League brought M.H.S. a foreign exchange student from Cyprus. Balkas Teoman, a very intelligent, warm-hearted girl, has taken part in all IRL activities as well as other school functions. Through the year she has become a special friend to many of us, and we will always remember her. Yet, of greater importance, Balkas and her American sister, Beth Wright, have helped to foster a feeling of friendship and understand- ing between the people of Cyprus and America. The members of the International. Relations League have been very busy this year helping Balkas enjoy her visit at M.H.S. As usual, they have worked hard by sponsoring activities and fund raisers to earn money needed to bring a foreign student here next year. In addition, they have put out an extra effort to raise money to send a student from Meadowdale to a school in a foreign country in the near future. As the months went by, | became familiar with American life and Americans. People in my country all think of Americans with great big houses, at least two cars and lots of money in the bank. We do not know the secrets of American life, and we cannot learn them without living in America. | must be lucky that | have found this opportunity. | am ready now to go back and try to show them what America is. The team often made a better showing than their 7-13 record indicated. After trouncing Lake Washington 50-39, the Chief basketballers went into a slump, dropping five straight. The Christmas season was good to the Chiefs. Leading off with a 76-64 victory over visiting Sedro Wooley, the Chiefs traveled to Edmonds, capturing the Holiday Tournament cham- pionship. The New Year saw the Chiefs defeating Terrace 57-41. Dropping three close ones to Seattle Prep, Cascade, and arch rival Edmonds, the Chiefs bounced back to knock off Bel- lingham on the home boards. The Chiefs then faced Everett in one of the best games of the season, staying with the Western Confer- ence champs nearly all the way before falling 77-66. After a close loss to Blanchet, the Chiefs beat Terrace in a hair-raising 55-47 game. After losing a hard fought game with Bellingham, the Chiefs fell before the Edmonds Tigers in a seesaw battle, and then dropped a close one to Cascade to end the season. The regular season for the Meadowdale wrestling team contained many high spots and ended in great success. Under the able guidance of Mr. Bruce Cook, assistant Mr. Terrance Johnson and led by undefeated Captain Steve Delong, the Chief wrestlers won 8, lost 3 and drew 1. Losing only one match against Bellingham and tying one in league competi-: tion, the team placed second in the Western Conference. One of the most thrilling matches of the year was a 24-24 tie with arch-rival Edmonds. With four returning lettermen and several experienced J.V. members, Meadowdale Senior High School will be well represented next year in wrestling. With this behind them, the eleven winners at subdistrict headed to Burlington-Edison for the district match, which was to decide the state berths. Here the Chiefs took Sth place and placed thre e boys and sent Steve Delong and Dave Zehrung to the state competition at Ellensburg. By singing at out-of-school functions, they have become outstanding repre- sentatives of M.H.S. to the community. With ambition and stamina, they have devoted their spare time to one goal—to take a musical tour during spring vacation. The Impressions have not only brought us fine entertainment throughout the year, but they have been one of Meadowdale’s best groups of good will ambassadors. Band Members: L. Annerson, D. The successes and progress accomplished by the student body this year have been made possible by the fine leadership of our A.S.B. officers and council representatives. The annual magazine fund drive was one example of the fine support the student body has given. Seniors gained new privileges this year as a result of A.S.B. action. Under the supervision of the advisor, Mr. John Garner, the A.S.B. has become an important part of the life of every student at Meadowdale. eam I oe } Senior Class Officers Mike Monnahan President JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS President—Steve Potter; Vice-President—Robin Dodge; Secretary—Pat McCune; Treasurer—Terry O'Malley. From the rocky coral reefs, Ken Cloud’s orchestra music floated tenderly among the dancing couples. A mysterious, white pillared Grecian city provided a place for cool, tingling re- freshments. A sparkling jeweled cave en- tranced the couples as they entered the aquamarine atmosphere. Sunken ships from the pirateer era beheld glittering gems to the eye. Upon musty smelling nets, namecards in the shape of twin seahorses wavered. At twelve o'clock, a blue mist closed the marineland dream. Tolo was not the only success the Girls’ Club has had. Mother Goose is on the Loose was the delightful theme of the Big and Little Sister Banquet. Costumes ranged from Wee Willie Winkie to Mother Hub- bard’s dog. Later they will sponsor a movie, a father-daughter banquet, and the annual Mother-Daughter Tea. The Girls’ Club Advisors, Mrs. Scheel, Mrs. Mann, and Mrs. Meyers, have helped ad- vise President Sue Harter; Vice-President Barb Norman; Secretary, Linda Dodge; and Corresponding Secretary and Trea- surer, Barb Emel. y , Sa? BOYS’ CLUB Boys’ Club turned out to be quite successful in every- thing that was attempted. The annual can food drive was their major accomplishment. An out-door track meet is scheduled for the spring, and money has been rai sed for needy families. Active members of the club also worked in the concession stands. The main goal of Boys’ Club is to leave enough money behind for a reader board. It is because of the deep dedication to the club and the hard work put forth by the active members and the officers that the club has done so much. The leaders were: Jim Davidson, president; Mike Monnahan, vice-president; Ted Nelson, secretary; and Dick Birkenbeul, sergeant-in-arms. The Girl’s Athletic Association has helped to promote sportsmanship among the girls at Meadowdale. G.A.A. gives girls an opportunity for participation in various sports. Inter-school play and field days have helped to promote valuable friendships with girls from other schools. Due to some exceptional hitting by Bruce Shreve throughout the season and workhorse pitcher Dennis Tibke, the Meadowdale baseball team produced a winning season. The Chiefs came on strong during the end of the season and won their last 6 out of 8. Bruce Shreve was the leading hitter with a 3:2] average, and Pat Echbarger was elected honorary captain. With Van Lang, Andy Botin, Richard Weight, Tony Backes, Mike Chastain, Dave Johnson, and Bruce Shreve returning, Meadowdale should be represented well in baseball next season. John Laramore—Pole Vault 13’ This year our track team has been one of which we can be very proud. They have worked very hard, whether winning or losing. Meadowdale sent eight boys to State, second only to Renton who sent nine. At State, Paulson placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 179’5”. School records were easily broken this year also. Larry Paulson threw the javelin 180'9”; Ray Payne pole-vaulted 137”; and Greg Rice ran the 880 in 1:58.1, all bettering previous years. Besides these, Steve Horning deserves recognition for the mile, running it in 4:26.2. In the spring IRL held a reception honoring Estela. She showed slides of her native Argentina. As our second foreign student this year, Estela has been an able and likable ambassador of good will. Model United Nations officers, below: Robin Miller, secretary; Robin Acker, vice-president; Paul Andrews, treasurer; and Barb Dart, president; will lead the club next year in its many activities. Among them are receptions and frequent trips to other cities for . | MUN conferences. IRL activities this spring included IRL week, a week of fund-raisers to benefit next year’s foreign. student. The week culminated with a dance on Friday night. IRL also sponsored a foreign student day, when foreign students from the Seattle area visited MHS. For the second year in a row, a musical production proved to be a huge success. The Boys From Syracuse, under the direction of Mr. William Crossett and student director Carolyn Bethell, was presented to a large audience on April 1 and 2.
