1981 — The year It started to show If we talked about 1980-81 as the year it showed, the it referred to would not be something always tangible, always visable. It constantly changed and refused to stay in one place to be oohed and ahhed over by an amazed and admiring student body, for it was an intangible, a spirit of ‘pulling together” that had managed to somehow elude the Mon- archs for the past several years. This it, this “pulling together’’ manifested itself when the football team came through with a 4-6 record after only minimal victories in the past five years. It was obvious at pep rallies where the “will to win”’ the spirit stick was the impetus for the extra spirit shown by the competing classes. It really showed when the annual blood drive pulled in twice as much blood for the Metropolitan Blood Service as last year. It started to show The day of the Sceptre slide show, it showed when the whole student body and staff was asked to give Meadowbrook a round of applause for be- ing a pretty special place. They did. It also popped up when the students purchased 756 ’81 Sceptres. It also showed up when the visiting Evaluation Committee walked the halls in late fall and men- tioned a closeness between faculty and students that ‘“couldn’t have been faked.” The it that showed was not like a burst of fire- works, it was more like a comfortable feeling, not forced, often noticable because of an absence of bad feelings between differing groups and a will- ingness to admit that ‘differences were allowed.” SN Ahh... relaxation! During halftime at a J.V. foot- ball game John Hunt takes a rest from the field action. There you are! At the 1980 yearbook signing party held in September, Amy Warren sees a picture of Leslie Henry and lets her know it. 4 Opening
