And this year Dang Hoang... Each year the faculty has sponsored several fund rais- ing activities to be able to provide a deserving Senior with a scholarship. The ‘81 scholarship went to Dang Hoang who planned to at- tend George Washington University, Pre-med. The scholarship of $1,200.00 was available because of the suc- cess of two major fund rais- ers. The annual mini — olym- pics, which have been held for three years, was present- ed at the beginning of the year. Althought the students won out in the overall scor- ing, the faculty won out with the amount of money they had to apply to the scholar- ship fund. Up front The Mess Meadowbrook contest gave Dang a chance to show a less scholarly side. The second event was the pancake supper prepared and served by the faculty. This was in place of the tradi- tional spaghetti supper which had become too ex- pensive to prepare. The sup- per was a moderate success but still as they say, “every lit- tle bit helps.” In a faculty meeting, just before graduation, the facul- ty voted on applicants who had turned in teachers rec- ommendations. The voting was based on scholarship need and teacher recom- mendation. Dang received the scholar- ship at graduation and was immediately called back to be presented the Mack D. Moore scholarship. The first of two Mr. Buchanan pre- sents the faculty scho larship to Dang, just before he learns that he also won the Mack D. Moore schol- arship. Faculty Scholarship 29

Oh dem pancakes! Mr. Larry Bu- chanan and Ear! Binns call to invite more pancake buyers. Ummm good! The pancakes must have been good if the look on Mrs. Gloria Blake’s face means anything. Tug harder The student end of the tug-of-war was led by Jeff James lost out because of “extra” student help. Slaving over a hot stove Jim Glaspie, Earl Binns and Lamar Brandt turn out pancakes at the supper. 28 Faculty Scholarship
