a ass In the fall of 1959, twenty-one freshmen entered the halls of Meadow Grove High School, Mr. Ralph Merklinger was superintendent. His co-workers were Mrs. Marge Ankeny, English; Mr. Charles Hummer, Science; Miss Mildred McNamee, Home Ec. and History; Mr. Spear, Math and Sports; and Mr. Leonard Sawyer, the Band instructor. Our class sponsor was Mr. Hummer and we were led by Duane Suckstorf as President, his helpers were Jane Horrocks, Jeannie Hamely, and Kay Ziehmer. Carol Granger left at the end of the first semester. As we came back to our second year of high school we knew the ropes of high school just a little bit better. We started the year off right with 2 0 of the class returning. Mr. Blade was superintendent, and his helpers were Mr. Charles Hummer, Miss McNamee, Mrs. Carol Henry, Music and English; and Mr. Robert Perry, the new coach. Mr. Sawyer was again here to help us with Band. At the end of the first semester Mr. Blade left and was replaced by Mr. Hiltner, who taught Mathematics. During the second semester we lost Kenneth Carr and were very glad to have Marla Creager join us. The class was led by Mick Anson, President; with Walter Humphrey, Mike Sullivan, and Rodger Nelson. Our sponsor was Coach Perry. In the spring we selected our class rings. As we again returned to our next year, we gave the Seniors a delightful Banquet with the theme The Twist. We also put on the productions of How to Capture and Keep a Husband, The Great Western Melodrama, and Beware of Termites. We did this with the help of our sponsor, Mrs. Carol Henry. The teaching staff was the same except for a new Superintendent, Mr. William Conry, and Mr. Young, the new Band Instructor. The class was led by Thyra Lulow with Jane Horrocks, Kathi Daniel, Gail Grant, and Tonda Brosh as her Helpers. At the beginning of the second semester we gained Ronnie Zierke, an addition which brought our enrollment to eighteen. Tim Reikofski did not return. At the beginning of our last Plunge, we put on the swingin' Hillbilly Weddin with the help of our sponsor, Mrs. Anderson. We all worked very hard this year as it was our last and we wanted to put out the best yearbook ever. All the teachers returned except Miss McNamee, who retired to take a world cruise and Mrs. Henry, who wished to quit teaching for a while. Mr. Young took over vocal music and Mr. Steinner taught History. Mrs. Anderson took on the task of Home Economics and English. One night in May we all donned blue caps and gowns and marched up the aisle to our final goal of high school graduation. It was so very pretty, but just a little sad as another session of MGHS history went by.
