MEADOW GROVE HIGH SCHOOL Meadow Grove, Nebraska 1961 e Congratulations for a job well done! The worth of a school can be most accurately evaluated by its accomplishments and its products, the students. I feel that the 1960-1961 Trojan serves as a fitting momument to the Senior and Junior Classes that speaks for itself. It has been a great pleasure for me to work with them and I am sure that they will continue to succeed in whatever they do after they leave Meadow Grove High School. It is interesting to note that the 1960-1961 Trojan is the result of cooperative effort of the Junior and Senior classes this year due to the small number of Seniors. The group were quite insistant upon producing a yearbook despite the obvious handicaps. This yearbook is an effort to provide a pictorial record of the 1960-1961 school year at Meadow Grove Public School. I am especially happy that students have learned more responsibility by producing this yearbook. The outside world is in a turmoil and will require many level headed, responsible citizens to help guide the affairs of state. The responsibility you have learned hereby will pay greater dividends later. We the Annual Staff dedicate the 1960-1961 Trojan to Mrs. Henry. We take this means of showing our appreciation of Mrs. Henry's patience and understanding. We are grateful to one who has given so unsparingly of herself, her talents, and her time to make this annual a success. CHARLES O. Peggy, a delightful girl who talks too much, is tricked into an agreement to remain absolutely silent for the next 48 hours—no matter what! Her girl friend, Gwen, is to stay with her to make certain she keeps the agreement. Gwen decides this would be a fine time for her to snare the silent Peggy's boy friend, Willie. Peggy has to choke back her anger and remain silent while Gwen tries out all her wiles on Willie. Meanwhile, Peggy's bewildered parents are convinced something serious is wrong and call for doctors and specialists. Relatives start coming and complications start mounting. Willie gives up with Peggy and decides to go along with Gwen. Then, suddenly, the forty-eight hours of speechlessness comes to an end, and Peggy takes action! Peggy Morgan . . Betsy ......... The throne was at the north end of the gym and was covered with streamers. The names of the athletes being honored were posted on the west wall. The volleyball girls were honored on the south wall. The east wall featured a huge Trojan coat of armor. Rodger Nelson gave the greeting. Then came the processional and the crowning of the King and Queen of Sports, Jerry Wyatt and Joyce Lyall. Attendants to the queen were Donna Rae Black, Beth Ann McIntosh, and Susan Gilbert. Attendants to the king were Doug Ellis, Ronnie Zierke, and Duane Suckstorf. Assisting in the coronation as crown-bearers were Sherry Verplank and Timmy Shawyer. Athletic letters were presented. Music was provided by Mr. Sawyer and the sophomore girls' trio. Eight grade school girls served the banquet. The theme of the 1961 Junior-Senior Banquet was Evening in Paris. It was held on the evening of April 28. The north half of the gym was decorated as a sidewalk cafe. The path to the cafe led past a wishing pond to a low stone wall having two cafe entrances flanked by small potted trees. The ceiling was covered with blue and silver streamers dotted with stars. The north wall featured a large lighted replica of the Eiffel Tower. The west wall portrayed a sidewalk art shop. Doug Ellis, junior class president, gave the welcome. Joyce Lyall, senior class president, gave the response. A talk by Mr. Hummer followed. The banquet was served by the following sophomores: Kathy Daniel, Thyra Lulow, Kay Ziehmer, Jeannie Hamley, Rodger Nelson, Larry Sparr, Mick Anson, and Duane Suckstorf. The girls were dressed as sidewalk artists, the boys as French chefs. English II Three Stooges Officers at work?
