In the fall of ’56, twenty-six green freshmen entered the Meadow Grove ranks. General Ralph Merklinger ruled us the first year, with Colonel Sandra Hamley at the head of the ranks. The Colonel was helped by Majors Black, Grant, and Meyer. Our regiment marched on to our second year with General Merklinger leading us again. James Duchow and Dennis Lewis did not rejoin our ranks. Colonel Lynda Black lead us this year. She was assisted by Majors Suckstorf, Hamley, Horrocks, and Meyer. Privates Jack Lawless and Donald Bradley joined our ranks for a few months, but were soon discharged. Later that year. Merle Rienke was also discharged. We entered our third year again led by General Merklinger. Jeanette Urban joined our ranks. Colonel Arlyn Suckstorf led us this year. He was assisted by Majors Wynn, DeCamp, and Meyer. Entertainment was given to the other regiments when we presented the play “A Dance With Our Miss Brooks.” We gave our superiors a lovely banquet with the theme A Song in My Heart.” We are now on the last lap of our journey. General Merklinger again is “showing us the way.” Colonel Georgia Grant, assisted by Majors Meyer, DeCamp and Wauer, was at the head of the ranks. We were happy to have private Theron Jensen join our ranks, but sorry to lose privatt 1st class Jeanette Urban. Our subordinates gave us a beautiful banquet South of I he Border , and we presented the play “Maid to Order” for the other platoons. Privates 1st class Lynda Black and David DeCamp were crowned Queen and King in our final lap. We all agree that “We have crossed the bay and the ocean lies ahead. —11—
