Many people do not know the work that goes into an annual, such as art work, typing and etc. Much time was spent on art work alone, without mentioning the time and labor spent on layout and writeups. Each picture mnst be centered on the page along with the writeup. In making this annual we have learned to work close together as a group and with our annual sponsor, Mr. Ballantyne. We wish to here thank all our many advertisers who have by their financial support made our annual a success. Twelve years ago we had but one Trojan of the class who mounted her horse and started towards the castle of education, this being JoAnn Ferry. Ted Van Dieken who was a member of the class until his Jr. year traveled the journey with her. The two of us traveled alone until the fourth grade when Donna Pierce overtook us and joined the crusade. We came to a creek where we camped for several months. When we were rested we found we were ready to Journey on. Mounting our horses we found Dick Werner, coming from Battle Creek, to join our crusade. On the sixth milestone of our journey, Dale Nelson, from Plainview, had joined our ranks. After stopping for supplies we found Gerald Van Gundy, coming from a rural achool, had joined us to become a Trojan. We traveled through our seventh lap gaining or losing no one. On the eighth stop of our journey Gerald Van Gundy had decided to go back to a rural school. By this time our horses had become so tired they could not go any further so we switched to atomic power horses. At this junction we were Joined by Mabel Pfisterer, Opal Pollard, JoAnne Avery, Lois Brown, Robert Dahl, and Gerald Van Gundy, who came from nearby rural schools to become Trojans of our clan. Our chancellor, for the Trojans, for the lap was Mrs. Fender. We chose Mabel Pfisterer for our captain, Lois Brown for our co-captain, and JoAnn Ferry for our secretary and treasurer. Coming into the tenth valley we found that Jerry Morris had Joined our ranks. Stopping again for supplies we found Carol Tiedgen, who came from Colorado, had joined us. Again this year Mrs. Fender was our chancellor. Ted Van Dieken was our captain, JoAnne Avery our co-captain, Lois Brown our secretary and Dick Werner our treasurer. Soon we came to a sign post saying Eleventh Grade Ahead. Jerry Morris and Carol Tiedgen had left us hoping to find a shorter route. Mr. Gordan was our chancellor for the first semester, but when he decided to move on to other grounds, we chose Mr. Slentz. Our captain for this year was Lois Brown, with JoAnne Avery as co-captain, Mabel Pfisterer as secretary and Donna Pierce as treasurer. Wanting to earn money for the Jr.-Sr. Banquet we stopped long enough to put on a play, My Darling Children, every member taking part. Ted Van Dieken s atomic horse began to slow down, so he decided to camp at Stanton for the rest of his high school days. We journeyed on to the Old Fashioned Garden and gave the Seniors a farewell banquet there. We came to a huge sign post that stated we were on the last lap of our journey. Duane Chittenden Joined our ranks to make our number ten for the final stretch. We chose Mrs. Steffen to be our chancellor, and turned over Mr. Slentz s horse to her. She mounted and led us through our battles. JoAnne Avery was captain. Bob Dahl was co-captain, Lois Brown was secretary and Duane Chittenden was treasurer. We stopped long enough to give Take Your Medicine, in early April. Bob Dahl and Dick Werner took time out to play basketball and boost the Trojans on at a few good looking trophies. JoAnn Ferry also stayed a while and was again cheerleader for her third year. Mabel Pfisterer was a cheerleader, too. We deserted camp, to sneak away for a day of sight-seeing and fun. Coming back, we found that our atomic powered horses had deserted us, so we went the rest of the way on foot. On May 16 we were all handed diplomas which signified that we had come through our long journey of the twelve grades with flying colors. fraphtcu, Sitting on the stage of M.G.H.S. on the night of commencement, listening to the speaker, my mind began to wander and I suddenly found nyself in the year 1962. It seemed as though I was in an Airplane, tut being a very odd looking plane, I began investigating. Just as I got up someone tapped me on the shoulder and I turned a-round to face Lois Brown, dressed in a stewardess uniform. I asked her what sortof machine I was on and she said nA flying Saucer” and this is our first trip to the moon. I was so shocked that I fainted and when I woke I found myself on board a very beautiful yacht. I looked around tut there seemed to be no one on board, yet we were moving. Just as I started to take a step the boat tilted a little and tumped into something so that I fell to the floor. It was then I saw someone coming toward me. Much to my surprise I recognized Bob Dahl. Bob told me that he just couldn t manage his father s farm. He always had to get up too early in the morning to milk the cows. Just then there was another jolt and this time when I awoke I found myself in a beautiful Concert Hall. I heard someone singing and then I saw Gerald Van Gundy standing on the large stage, but was I ever surprised when I recognized the song he was singing as nI m a Lonely Little Petunia in an Cfaion Patch.” When Gerald finished his song I rushed outside, having heard a police siren, and just barely recognized Dick Werner as he whizzed by in the Chiefs Car. Wonder who he s after this time? I read in the papers that he had caught the gang that was stealing his cigars from his desk. It seems someone set a rat trap and caught the b—rats. All the excitement being over for the time being I began to walk down the street. I was deep in thought as I crossed the street so I didn t notice the light was red and not green. Much to everyone s surprise I made it to the other side of the street. I noticed a cute little tuilding nearly and being of the curious kind I went in. There were two or three richly-dressed women in this store and sitting £ a desk at the back of the room was Mabel Pfisterer. I walked back to talk to her and she said she was a dress designer for a large company in Hollywood. She also told me that Duane Chittenden was a Professor at a College in France. She said that JoAnne Averv was singing with Harry James band taking Betty Grable s place and doing a good job of it, too. Just then another customer came in and I left. I noticed the time of day, which was 6 p. m. so I went into a cafA named ”Jo s Palace,” As I stepped in I saw Jo Ann Ferry standing behind the counter. Jo said she owned this cafA and one in San Francisco. It was a beautiful place and I could see why she named it the Palace. Finishing my supper I noticed on the television set a girl that looked very familiar. Then the announcer introduced her as Donna Pierce. Tonight she was to start her first trip around the world. Just as I was leaving, about ten women came in and one of them I recognized as Opal Pollard. She told me she was a teacher now and they were having a convention. Just then I woke to hear my name being called to walk up and receive my diploma. The CENTRAL FINANCE CORPORATION NELIGH ROLLER RINK Wm. At the last minute she gets a wire from Ned Inness (Gerald Van Gundy) announcing he is calling on her to discuss the revival of a play Penelope has starred in when she was younger. But wait] Penelope is over forty] The part calls for a girl of eighteen, but you are only as old as you feel. Penelope feels eighteen. If her daughters Miriam (Mabel Pfisterer), eighteen, and Harriet (Opal Pollard), seventeen, were only twelve. Penelope decides the girls are only twelve. Miriam and Harriet dress as twelve-year-old twins. Oie laugh piles right on top of the last. There is Ed Hughes (Dick Werner), who is practically engaged to Harriet and has to dress as fourteen to see his steady. When Mr. Ames first met Penelope he forgot to tell her he had a son George (Robert Dahl), in college. Since Mr. Ames doesn't want to appear too old George dresses up in his old scout uniform. Roberta (joAnn Ferry) , from next door has to wear a short dress, too] Penelope's darling children certainly are a headache. But Lilac (JoAnne Avery), the funniest colored lacjy baby sitter, solves everything. She is a specialist in baby sitting and she has a baby sitting uniform loaded with gadgets for baby sitting. Mr. Ames is older than he thinks, when he proposes he gets a crick in his back. Lilac comes to the rescue with a mustard plaster. How did this crazy funny mix-up end? Happily to be sure, with everything turning out just fine. TAKE YOUR MEDICINE Wow] Leave it to young Bill Jackson (Dick Werner), to get himself into a terrible Jam. But can you blame him for not correcting a wrong impression when fifty thousand dollars are at stake? Tou see, Bill is a Doctor of Philosophy and a college professor, which means he really can be called Doctor all right. But his fiance,' Angela (JoAnne Avery), has a wealthy cranky uncle who likes medical doctors but is strongly prejudiced against professors. So when Angela brings Bill to meet Uncle Henry (Duane Chittenden), in the hospital and introduces him as Dr. Jackson, Uncle Henry thinks he is a surgeon------- and no one corrects him because he promises to give Angela and Bill $50,000 for the first life Bill saves. Then, there are the antics of the two hospital roommates, Dodson and Puckett (Gerald Van Gundy), who keeps things in a continuous uproar. Puckett, jolly and extremely mis-chievious, and Dodson, wealthy, crabby and overbearing, keep the hospital staff in hot water from start to finish. Then there are also the special nurses, Dottie (Donna Pierce) and Pat (Mabel Pfisterer), Then there's the nurse who is always popping in and out taking temperatures. That is Dodie (Opal Pollard). Miss Holt (Lois Brown) has a time trying to keep everything in order while the doctor is out of town. And there are Jack (Robert Dahl), the witty orderly, and funny Dovie Finkledink (JoAnn Ferry). This, like almost every ‘play, came out all right in the end with everyone happy and everything ending fine. TIME MARCHES ON Seventeen brilliant Freshmen entered the halls of Meadow Grove High School in the fall of 19AS We were green at first but after initiation we were full fledged Trojans and began to enjoy high school. Cbe of our members, Arlan Mozer, dropped out of our class during the first semester and left us with sixteen. With our class sponsor, Mr. Leamons, our Freshman year was one to remember. K. 8 !sFov P Lewis We began our Sophomore year looking forward to seeing other Freshmen, instead of being them. Our sponsor was Mr. Luttman. During the year we had three parties, two hay rides and a theatre party. This year some of the boys were making second and first teams in basketball, and one of our girl8, Pat Lewis was chosen Cheerleader. In 1950 fourteen proud Juniors sauntered through the halls of Meadow Grove again. This time our number was cut down by the loss of Jeanie Pratt and Joyce Schlueter. Again we had Mr. Luttman for our sponsor. Our classs officers were Pres.-Howard Ellis, Vice-Pres.-Dick Terry, Secretary-Eugene Abrahamson, Treasurer-Karen Volk. Pat Lewis was News Reporter. Our class rings arrived in October. Our play Midnight, a nystery comedy, went over with a bang with the help of Mr. Luttman and Mrs. Steffen. At the end of the first semester Pat Lewis dropped out to start her career as Mrs. Vertis Nathan, a housewife. We all wish her success. Again this year roost of the boys were playing basketball. Bob Horrocks, Bob Collins, Bob Monson, Kay Botsford, and Howard Ellis are on the first ten. Two of the girls chosen Cheerleaders were Ramona Werner and Pat Lewis. Pearl Weerts and Ramona Werner were selected to be in the Triple Trio. NORFOLK BRIDGE AND CONSTRUCTION CO. After this day we felt that we were full-fledged Trojans Hi We had three class parties the first semester. Che school party at Norfolk, a picnic, and two parties sponsored by individual members of our class were «11 successful. We are planning on having more this second semester. The second semester opened with 27 in our class; James Holton had come a few weeks after school started. Shortly after the second semester had started, Dixie Ferry became ill with rheumatic fever, which may keep her at home the remainder of the year. This year we have been very fortunate, thanks to the class of 48 for leaving their class money toward this worthwhile project, ty being able to see a good number of educational films. During the first part of the school year our films were shown down in the gym before the nar blackout curtains came for the study hall. Since about the first six weeks all high school films have been shown in the study hall. Pep Rally, Study Hall 3 «2 p.m. Daring Basketball season nearly every Tuesday and Friday, if the old walls of M.G.H.S. seemed to vibrate a bit between 3 «30 and tOO and odd sounds were heard, people living near the school would not think a thing of it—-Just another pep rally. The Pep Club and the Basketball squad are to be congratulated on a highly successful season this year, again. Rallies are fun, but they are some work. Ask the cheerleaders or those responsible. I Boy, Girl County Government Jhniors and Seniors participated this year in the first Boy, Girl County Government project set up in Madison County. This program was sponsored by the American Legion. The entire student body elected twelve officers to attend the meetings held in the County Court House offices October 18. AH the Juniors and Seniors were candidates for some office. Successful candidates that made the trip reported that they learned a little more about their county government during the day. MEADOW GROVE WELL WORKS A. M. BERG, Prop. Tilden Nebraska THE BRAIN STORM (1950Senior Class Play) Having led a sheltered life with his three maiden aunts, (LaVeme Mozer, Wilma I yall and Joyce Werner) Willoughby Adams, (Jack Warrick) had become about as spineless a creature as ever there was. In the college dorm, he's the one who makes the beds and lends the money and clothes to his college chums, (Perry Osborne, Kenny Pratt, Junior Monson, and Fred Lewis) That is, until his conscience. Inner Willy, (Boyd Boyer) materializes. Then gradually, very gradually, Willoughby begins to act like a man. He has the makings of an athlete and a star football player, but his aunts decide he is too frail to go out for athletics. He almost agreed with them too, until a college newsreporter, (JoAnne B.) tries to encourage him to try it. The college rooters (Pat Daniel, Wanda Lewis, Joyce Austin, Ruth Sparr, Ruth Koenig) put the pressure on him, too. Then, of course, there's Inner Willy, who twits and tortures the poor fellow. Two of his football pals, (Rc isnd McClatchey and Norman Kuntze) and Coach Lloyd (Virgil Hiatt) also try to convince him that they need him. When Willoughby's aunts came to see him, they brought Willoughby's old home town girl friend Marybelle, (Gloria Kohl) with them. From a college viewpoint she is a perfect dud, whose greatest ambition is to sleep. When Willoughby transfers his affections to Sally, and decides to play football Marybelle and the aunts depart for home. Gerald Van Gundy was toastmaster The Seniors colors of rose, silver and aqua were carried out in the decorations An old — fashioned wishing well centered the garden. On one side of the wishing well were lawn sets and on the other small tables were set for dinner in the garden Pastel candles served as centerpieces. The garden was surrounded by a stone wall and a small picket fence. The entrance to the garden was covered with flowers. Waiters and waitresses from the Sophomore class were chosen by drawing names out of a hat. Dick Terry, Eugene Abrahamson, Bob Horrocks, and Kay Botsford were the waiters. Pictured at the left from left to right are waitresses Joyce Synovec, Lois McClatchey, Karen Volk, Joyce Schlueter, Camera Werner and Pearl Weerts. . I Our team has had a very successful year under the direction of Coach Luttman. We have won 13 and lost 9 We won the third place trophy in the Combelt Tournaments at Neligh. In the Newman Grove Invitational tournaments we took fourth place. At the district tournaments our team showed more fight than they had all season, '•'e took first place by winning from Magnet on the first night. The game on the second night proved to be a thriller. With two defeats behind our boys they took advantage of a game that turned in their favor in the closing minutes of the game. The final score was Clearwater 5l-Meadow Grove 52. The last night we had to come up against Inman and we beat them by 2 points to take first place. We received a beautiful trophy. We then traveled to Plainview to play Wayne Prep. At Plainview we lost to Wayne Prep who later qualified for State tournaments by putting out Uehling in the following game. M.G.
