We, the Seniors in sound mind and body in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty, will to the following; The Freshmen we leave all the gum they can find under the desk and all the blackboard erasers for winter baseball practice. (If they need it) The Sophomores we leave the divine right to become Juniors of M.G.H.S. The Juniors we leave the Senior seats, that is if you made it again.ha To Mr. Switzer we leave all the marks and scars on the desks, walls, floors and anyplace else where we might have left some behind us. One day as I was browsing through the library in New York City, I ran across an interesting looking book called The Nifty Seniors of 50 by a famous author, Pat Daniel. Rapidly I turned the pages until I came to a chapter on The Whereabouts of My Former Classmates. Here I read that Joyce Austin was happily marrTed and she and Arlan own their own farm at Madison. They raise sun-flowers and guinia pigs. They are quite successful. I read also that Boyd Boyer owns a large manufacturing plant in New York. He manufactures rubber bands for all the Freshmen of M.G.H.S. (No one else would think of using themI) as you know, Pat Daniel is now a famous author and has written many books of such great intelligence as Mother Goose Ryhmes and Winston's First Reader. She is also a very successful registered nurse, writing is Just a sideline. Virgil Hiatt is a famous singer at the Stork Club, His nickname is muscle throat Monroe. Norman Kuntze is now coach of a midget basketball team in Texas. He is really an OUTSTANDING coach. I read on and discovered that Gloria Kohl is an interior decorator in New York. It seems she goes in for polka dots wall paper, striped upholstering and checked rugs. I forgot to mention she decorates at a very honorable institution, the N. Y. sanitorium. JoAnn Bishop is now a successful teacher in Arizona. She teaches homing pigeons to fly to Stromboli with flour and bring back dough. Wanda Lewis is head of the United States Mine Workers of Pennsylvania just like Uncle John L. Reading on I found that Fred Lewis and wife Daphne are in charge of housing administration at the South Pole. They live in an igloo they themselves built and live on love-blubber. Wilma Lyall has long since given up teaching in favor of bookkeeper and saleslady at the Chicago Lumber Company. Raymond McClatchey is a fill-in for the Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy down in deep Tennessee. Business appears to be good. Jack Warrick of course is carrying on his Dad's lumber business. He is now married and has a little John Wesley Warrick the IVth. I was surprised to learn that Ruth Koenig runs a lonely hearts club in California. Her slogan is Making matches may start a flame. LaVerne Mozer is a bookkeeping teacher at MGHS. It seems she has the most difficult class since the Class of $0, but she seems to be standing up well under the strain. Kenny Pratt is a deep-sea diver. His life is very exciting and he reports having several dates with golden-haired mermaids. I read on and in the next paragraph discovered that Junior Monson now runs a charm school for meek, bashful men with inferiority complexes in Arkansas. Junior says that he himself begin that way all through his younger years can sympathize with them greatly. Perry Osborne now has a tobacco farm in Virginia we find him sitting on his veranda, while his wife and the pickaninnies were out tending the tobacco fields. Ruth Sparr is now married to Don Shenshew and runs a beauty shop for ravishing redheads in Rhode Island. She also has a hatchery. Her main line of chickens is Rhode Island Reds. I turned the last page and found that Mrs. Steffen, our faithful sponsor, has retired from the teaching profession as she can't go on without her Senior Class. Closing the cover of the book, I felt a sort of lon-llness come over me and I wished that I could be back in M.G.H.S. with my good old class again. P. S. We also want to mention that Joyce Werner is now happily married and the mother of a little Hoffart. TW Va n D- JoA-mn K Aotc-rt D. 3oAtmti A- Lois £3. On September 2, 1947, eleven freshmen climbed up the stairs of Meadow Grove High. Mrs. Fender was our sponsor. We were initiated October 9, 1947. We started our Sophomore year feeling better now because we could now make fun of the Freshmen. Mrs. Fender was our sponsor again that year. Dick Werner made the first ten and Jo Ann Ferry was chosen a____________ cheerleader. We were waiters and waitresses at the Jr. Senior banquet. We had several parties the last being one at Norfolk the last week of school. We lost Dale Nelsen this year and gained Jerry Morris, whom we lost again at the end of the year. We began our Junior year with ten Juniors and Mr. Gordan as our sponsor. We had a theater party and wiener roast during the first semester. We gave a Junior class play on November 18th 1949. Dick Werner and Robert Dahl made the first ten and Jo Ann Ferry was again a cheerleader. At the end of the first semester we gave a big farewell party and chill feed for Mr. Gordan who resigned. Mr. Slentz was then our sponsor. We Just got settled down when Ted Van Dieken left reducing our Juniors to nine. We gave him a big party out at Averys. We had some more parties and then we gave the Jr. Sr. Banquet. We hope the Seniors enjoyed It as much as we enjoyed putting It on. , ,l ■fflA'i - B.t H. PRt5. In the fall of '49 sixteen people?', returned to make up the Sophomore class of 1950. We started the year by choosing our class officers who were Bob Horrocks, president, Kay Botsford, vice president, Dick Terry, secretary, Pearl Weerts, treasurer, and Karen Volk, news reporter. Mr. Luttman was chosen as our sponsor. We had two parties during the year. One In October, which was a picnic and theater party In Norfolk. The other was a sleigh ride which was held In February. We have enjoyed the first two years of High School a lot and look forward very eagerly to the last two. Do-n-n a_ Ric D. B a_r i) rA H. P-res . V. P-res. On September 5, 1949, twenty new freshmen entered Meadow Grove High School. Mr. Ballantyne, the new superintendent, became our new sponsor and we began to become acquainted at Meadow Grove High all together. As a usual custom we were looking forward to the 20th of September which was designated by the seniors as Initiation day. We entertained all the high school at a Halloween party. We went with the seniors on a roller skating party to the Neligh rink, and suffered several stiff mornings thereafter. We also had a roller skating party of our own later. , De Voe F. 5ec. EbotiyW fV-rbw-raO. T rca-S I lcW5 R. Starting the second semester, we lost one member of our freshman class, Katherine Van Dleken. A party was given In her honor at our sponsor's home.
