SPORTS SIXTEEN LETTER WINNERS BUILD FOR '85 SEASON Under new head coach Jon Dahl and assistant coach John Poltack the Raider football team ended it's season with a record of 3-6. The team was very competitive and was involved in many close contests. Offensively, we got off to a slow start which hurt us in our close games, but we ended the season on a good note with two consecutive wins, Coach Dahl said. Scores of the games were as follows: Yutan 15 - Mead 0; Fort Calhoun 18 - Mead 0; Conestoga 18 - Mead 7; Mead 27 - Malcolm 12; Weeping Water 27 - Mead 16; Mead 13 - Cedar Bluffs 0; Mead 17 - Palmyra 14. Tim Milliken was the team quarterback. Jon Van Bibber and Tom Milliken were the leading ball carriers for the Raiders. The top pass receivers and leading scorers were Scott Pick worth and Tom Milliken. Leading the Raiders with interceptions were Scott and Tim. Scott also led the team in fumble recoveries. The top three tacklers were: Jon Van Bibber, Jeff Haag and Dave Adams. Tom Adams led with the most sacks. Jon Van Bibber and Tom Milliken made the all-conference team and Tim Milliken received Honorable Mention. With the J.V. team having a record of 4-0, the upcoming season looks promising. Said Coach Dahl, Sixteen returning letter winners should give us a good nucleus for the team. Row 1: St. Mgr.. Jeff Konecky, Shannon Pickworth. Raiderettes Junior Varsity RAIDERETTES EARN C-2 RUNNERS-UP Sounds of the Mead pep band, cheers from the crowd, and lots of enthusiasm filled the gym at the pep rally, as the Raiderettes were getting ready for their trip to the state volleyball tournament. As the decorated bus was leaving, chants of Take State and those similar to this could be heard. When the Raiderettes arrived at Lincoln High School, aside from having butterflies , they were eager to face their first opponent, the Deshle- Dragons. The returning state runners-up from lasf year and the to seeded team of the tournament were stunned as the Raiderettes bee them in two sets 15-11, 18-16. The Raiderettes continued their succe as they defeated the Wynott Bluedevils in two sets 15-9, 15-3. After winning the second game, sparkle filled the eyes of the playei and the crowd as the Raiderettes had now qualified for the state final: It was finally the big moment everyone had been waiting for. Th Raiderettes were getting ready for the game in the Pershin Auditorium. People were filling the stands as it got closer to playin' time.
