Set in Brooklyn, the story portrays two aunts, Abby and Martha Brewster, who have as one of the “charities” the assisting of elder- ly gentlemen to their promised reward in heaven. Descended from a rather eccentric line of Brewsters, the old ladies are the last of a vanishing family which consists of a nephew, Teddy, who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, a mad criminal type who has an assistant Dr. Einstein, and a third nephew Mortimer, who is the only normal member of the family. Mortimer a drama critic is in love with Dr. Harper’s daughter Elaine. Dr. Harper the minister next door is some what reluctant to have his daughter, date a drama critic. Elaine is more than upset when Mortimer tells her to get out of the house only 15 minutes after he had proposed to her. Mortimer’s sudden change in behavior was brought about by his discovery of his aunts “charity.” This turn of events is complicated by Jonathan’s return when he brings one of his victims into the house. Jamey Nygren led Mead with four interceptions and four fum- ble recoveries. Craig Moline carried the ball 112 times for a total of 419 yards. The highlight of the season was Mead’s win over Waterloo 14-12. One disappointment was the “almost” touchdown at Yutan. VICTORY, HIGHLIGHTED THE RAIDERET- TES 9-9 SEASON. Off to a slow 1-6 start, the Raiderettes marched even with a victory over Wahoo. The Cedar Bluff Wildcats victory stopped Meads regular season effort at 6 wins and 7 losses. The Raiderettes, however out shinned the cats in the first round of the E.C.N.C. Tourney 4-15, 15-4, 15-6. After a failing ef- fort against Bennington, the Raiderettes topped Yutan for a 3rd place trophy. In the C-2 District, 1st round. Mead sailed past Valley 15-5, 15-6. In the C-2 District action against Bennington, what resulted in Meads final game, was almost the upset of the year as the Raiderettes hit 100% serving for a 15-6 rout. In the final two sets Meads serving fell to a 65% average, killing the hopes for a championship game. Sophomore Anita Luetkenhaus was elected all conference 1st team, while Seniors Cynthia Ellison, Dawn Parkins, Jeri Nelson, and Lori Langemeier were awarded all con- ference honorable mention. Sophomore Anita Luetkenhaus had the most assists in the season with 70 and Senior Cynthia Ellison was second with an average of four assists per game. Luetkenhaus also took team honors with the best free throw percentage of any member of the Mead team with a 66 percent success rate. Senior Lori Langemeier had the second best record in school history for the most points scored in a season with 294 and the second best career point average of 14 a game. Freshman Staci Hass holds the school record for the second highest number of rebounds in a game with 22 and has the school highest total rebounds in a season with 246. Three team members were named to the ECNC All Conference team, with Langemeier and Luetkenhaus going to the first team and Hass to the second team (the only freshman named to the all- conference team.)
