« R a 1980, THE BEST 11 MAN FOOTBALL TEAM IN MEAD HISTORY went 9-2, Mead had 7 returning Seniors who would form the basis for the Mead football team. The Raiders started the year out right by beating Malcolm and Ft. Calhoun. Mead then suffered it’s first set-back by being out- muscled by Bennington. Mead then went on to defeat the rest of their opponents, see score board. Mead then found them- selves at the end of the season in the State Play-offs, in the first round. Mead met the Overton Eagles at Overton, an 185 mile trip to Western Ne. Mead defeated Overton by a Score of 19-6. The game was a very tough defensive battle. Mead than advanced to the Semi Play-offs in class C-2 to meet Grant. The game was played at Fremont Memorial Field. HOMECOMING WEEK THE HOMECOMING ROYALTY: 1st Attendants D. Ellison, A. Luetkenhaus, King J. Konecky, Queen A. Rasmussen, 2nd Attendants, J. Milliken, J. Hanson. The Pep Club fired up the studentbody during Spirit week — with the following activities: Mon. — Hobo Day Tues. — Hat, sock, flood-pants Wed. — Mask, Costume Thurs. — Non-matching Fri. — Red and White Pre Game activities were concluded with a Pep Rally and a car parade. Later the Mead Raiders went on to defeat Conestoga 22-0. Then came the highlight of crowning the King and Queen and their attend- ants. The Homecoming Dance wrapped up Home- coming activities for 1980.
