J. Erickson and C. Charles watch as D. Fick crowns L. J. Mayer, L. Vogt, D. Franklin, and M. Harms await the announcement of the royalty for 1972. The mighty M.H.S. stands at the Homecoming bon fire. Rasmussen. The new royalty being crowned by D. Fick and M. Linden. Homecoming The mighty M.H.S. burning in Raider style started the pre-homecoming activities with the fac- ulty and students attending the annual bonfire. The mighty Mead Raiders played their home- coming football game with Brownell Talbot and won 57 to 6. The royalty was then announced and crowned as King: Larry Rasmussen and Queen: Marlene Lin- den. First attendants were Margaret York and John Erickson. Second attendants were Roxanne Schulz and Corky Charles. After the game there was a homecoming dance in the School gym. The Almanacs provided the music for the evening. The time was the early 1900's. The setting was a gloomy mid-Victorian mansion, located in the outskirts of a small American city. The action was confined to a single set, which includes a spacious hall-parlor, and a small bedroom. All School Play Our Town In the first act the author outlined the history of our town, which is Grover's Corners, New Hampshire and something of the character of the citizens. Then he carried you into the Gibbs and Webb families. The second act concerns the love affair between young George Gibbs and Emily Webb, ending in a moving wedding scene. The night began with the Banquet held at Valley View. After a delicious meal was served, the class history, class prophecy, and class will were read. Mr. Don John- son, former music teacher at Mead, was the guest speaker. Next it was off Indian Hills Theater for the entertainment of the evening. After the movie students gathered at homes of parents to end the Prom festivities for 1972. The head table as they enjoy their meal. The season was very successful with 8 wins and 1 loss. The loss occurred the night the Raiders played the Waterloo Panthers. The game changed hands several times, and finally went to the Panthers, 26-22. The Raiders tied for E.C.N.C. Champs with East Butler. Rodney shows us how to make a few yards. 46 Basketball Mead Raiders Capture 2nd In State Ratings The Raiders finished the season with 23 wins and 2 losses. The first loss occured in the finals of the E.C.N.C. tournament with Yutan. The score was 46-45. Fol- lowing this the Raiders came home with victories in the Districts and Regionals which meant that State was next. The Raiders were matched with Adams in the first game. Raiderettes Have A Good Season The Mead Girl's Track team placed second in the district and sent 4 girls to state. Freshmen Lau- rie Nygren and Karen Johnson, Sophomore Kathy Johnson, and Junior Rhonda Carden made the trip to the State Meet. Laurie Nygren placed second in the Class D 880 yard run. Her time was 2:36.8. Kathy Johnson placed fourth in the Class D 440 with a time of 64.3. As a team Mead scored six points which put them in a tie for 9th place in the Class D State Meet. Kathy and Jan compare ideas before competing in their events. Jan tries extra hard for Mead! Getting ready for her event is Kathy. Boy's Track Boy's Track Mead won the district meet and sent ten boys to State. Seniors Corky Charles, Mike Couch, Lar- ry Rasmussen, Steve Carritt, and David Deerson, Juniors Roland Rish and Don Anderson, Sophomore Kevin Ziegenbein, and Freshmen Russell Larson and Anthony Wright qualified.
