Mead breaks through--Denny runs with the ball. 1965 Action in - Football Mead's football prospects suffered greatly this year due to the lack of experience, players and limited manpower. There were only three returning lettermen, and a total of 13 players on the entire squad. The lone victory of the season was over Weston, 27-12. The Raiders lost their first homecoming game since the event started at Mead, four years ago. The de- feat came at the hands of Cedar Bluffs, 48-6. Because of the decline of interest in the football team, it was originally decided, by the school board, to discontinue the football program for the coming year. However, the school board has recon- sidered, and Mead will field a team next year, if there is sufficient interest and a sizeable turnout. Let's go Rich! Senior Denny gets a pep talk from Coach Rockey. 19

The Mead Raiders slipped from a vic- torious 1964-65 season as Husker Five Champs to a dismal Fourth place fin- ish in the Southern division of the ECNC conference. The Raiders chances of a successful season suffered when five of the teams top seven players graduated. The Raider Spirit and hustle was not enough to overcome the lack of height and experience. They were able to muster only three victories the entire season. The Raiders also had little success in tournament play as they were elim- inated in the first of the ECNC tourn- ament by Weston 44-40. Five starters and Coach LEFT: Gary Simons, Randy Hutmacher, Coach Rockey, Richard Maly, Jim Wagner. FRONT: Dennis Washburn.
