m emones are JlTac e of Ufa's . Proucffu Presen ina (OuJt (jaJteJv who have stood beside us through the years of our education, when times were easy and when times were difficult, always ready to guide and direct, encourage and comfort, challenge and praise. To their labor, sweat, tears, example, and help we gratefully dedicate this record of our achievement, which without their counsel and guidance would not have been possible. As we launch out into the fullness of our lives, lives more independent and free from their control, we thank them for the example they set and the struggles they bore for us, and hope that we may prove a blessing to them as their influence leads us into full, productive, and useful lives. It is over. The yearbook is done. The staff completely relaxes and takes a deserved rest. They all feel that this is the best yearbook ever put out by Mead High School, but what it took to do it! Every body is beat. Layout, transfer, copy, mailing, selling, all complete!! Jim Hummel, Robert Pearson, Irving Lorenz, Mrs. A. T. Svoboda, William Behrens, Floya McClay, Norman Gustafson-Pres. C) ass 7x0 We, the Seniors of Mead High School, Class of 1962, state of Nebraska, city of Mead, being of sound mind after four trying, yet tremendous years, in this institution, do hereby make, publish and declare this as our last will and testament. To the Faculty we leave our ability to run the school. To the Juniors we leave our dirty faces and clean minds or vice versa. To the Sophomores we leave our ability to put up a good front. To the Freshmen we leave our ability to get away with mischief. We, as individuals, do hereby will the following: I. Sharon Behrens, do hereby will my ability not to get by swiping cake to anyone who likes to get caught, and my ability to get stuck in the mud on a dark road to anyone who likes to take long walks. I Ann English, do hereby will my ability to put what I eat where it shows, to Martha Maly and Janet Nelson, and my ability to get a part in the class play to Diane Stange, a very deserving girl. I, Mark Gustafson, do hereby will my dainty feet to Kirby Zicafoose, and Charlie Warner to the Junior Class (because that's where he'll be next year anyway.) I, Ronald Gustafson, do hereby will my electric shaver to Kirby Zicafoose, my sparkling personality to Mr. Anderson, and my interest in Yutan to every red-blooded American boy. I, Richard Hannan, do hereby will my twin brother to anyone who will keep him out of my hair, and my last place in the lunch line to Mr. Hummel. I. Robert Hannan, do hereby will my pan washing ability to next years lunchroom helper, and my car to NO ONE. I, Mikeliams, do hereby will my convertible, with a small knock under the hood to the Drivers Ed. Class, and my ability to always be on hand when Roy wants a piano moved to Randal Hanson. t I, Ralph McClay, do hereby will my slim figure to Lynda Howard, and my curly hair to Mr. Hummel. I, Keith Pulse, do hereby will my sideburns to Mr. Hummel, and my reputation to Melvin Vance. I, Mickey Pulse, do hereby will my little Nash Metropolitan to Dave Anderson, and my natural black hair to Judy House. I, Dianne Pellan, do hereby will my ability to keep from staying after school to Marvin Hass, and my ability to get around without a drivers license to Judy House and Joyce Carlson. I, Ronald Shanahan, do hereby will my transmissions to George Nygren (He'll be needing them soon), and Ron Gustafson to the Yutan Senior Class since he's there so much anyway. I, Terry Swanson, do hereby will my ability to wreck cars to Mr. Danielson, and my co- ordination to Glenn Hageman. I, Chuck Stoakes, dohereby will my Yo-Yo to Mr. Danielson, and my interest in Wahoo to no one. I, Charles Warner, do hereby will my broken telephone pole to Diane Stange, and my pole vaulting pole to Mr. Anderson to lead the band with. ()fass J rophec c The National Space Administration has just selected the fifteen individuals who are supposed to make the first trip to Mars--one way. Yes, these twelve men and three women just named will colonize the planet which up to this time has only been landed on once by the man who will lead this larger expedition—Astronaut Charles Stoakes. The man second in command is Ronald Shanahan renowned radio technician. Those going are each outstanding in their fields and each have a definite purpose in the trip. The truly amazing thing is that they all come from the same state, town, and school. They all graduated from Mead High School just 18 years ago in 1962. The Government feels that the trip will be a sure success since they are familiar with each other. Dr. Sharon Behrens Schweitzer Jr., widow of the late Dr. Schweitzer the famous surgeon, will be in charge of the health and safety measures on the trip. She will be constantly checking the health of the members of the expedition and will aid them in sickness. To keep the group active, and in good spirits, Ronald Gustafson, famous for being named Rookie of the Year in the American Basketball Association and now a renowned high school coach, will be the recreation and social director during the flight and after arrival. Those in charge of transportation and construction of living quarters after landing are: Keith Pulse, a now famous heavy equipment operator who recently gained renown on the Government's Dig Thru to China operation; Mickey Pulse, the famous race car driver who has been the first to master the operation of the new Mars Cars; Robert F. Hannan, architect and designer of the house which was selected as the most practical for adaption to Mars; Charles Warner who recently was acclaimed for his stand against telephone poles in a live T.V. debate; and Terry Swanson, a test driver who has withstood harder crushes than any of the other astronauts. The woman in charge of keeping the records, books, and setting up land offices on Mars is Mrs. Dianne Pellan Hannan wife of the humorist and cartoonist Richard S. Hannan who will accompany his wife, named Secretary of the Year in 1967, on the trip. He calls his duties that of a house husband but he will assist Gus in maintaining morale and he will also help publish the news- paper (in charge of the funny page). The two men who will be in charge of keeping the group fed will be the two renowned farmers Mark Gustafson, the man who raised the biggest ear of corn in 1970 and who has done research with the conditions he'll face on Mars, and Mike Iiams, the man who in 1969 raised the largest bull on record and who invented the tractor which will be used on the planet. Miss Ann English, spinster old maid and missionary teacher, will serve as Chaplain for the party and will be prepared to win over any natives that may be found to reside on the sphere. Mr. Ralph McClay will be in charge of educating any natives found and if none are found he will write for the newspaper and prepare to teach any new arrivals which we are sure will follow. In all, the problems are being worked out and it appears that the fifteen will be launched in less than three months. New methods were taught by Coach Gary Hofmann in the form of man to man defense and zone. These were new techniques to the boys and they showed fine ability with them at many times. A determined spirit and agile body are the rewards of playing the game, whether win or lose. Memories are made of this. Three of our boys quali- fied at the district meet and went to the state in their event. Many school and personal records were broken by the 1962 Mead Track Team. Memo- ries of this are fond. The band, meeting three times a week, also achieved goals of which they can be proud. At the District Music Contest, we received eight l's out of thirteen entries and the remainder 2's even though we jumped class this year.
