We hold high the torch of liberty to the people of all the world. We pledge ourselves to respect and maintain the principles of the “American Way of Life”. AMERICAN Right to work in callings and localities of our choice. Right to bargain with our employers and employees. Right to go into business, compete, make a profit. Right to bargain for goods and services in a free market. Right to contract about our affairs. Right to the service of government as a protector and referee. Right to freedom from arbitrary governmen regulation and control. The doors of the public schools in America are open to all races regardless of class, race, creed, or religion. WAY OF LIFE Right to worship God in one’s own way. Right to free Speech and Press. Right to assemble. Right to petition for grievances. Right to privacy in our homes. Right of Habeas Corpus--no excessive bail. Right to trial by jury--innocent till proven guilty. Right to move about freely at home and abroad. Right to own private property, ight to free elections and personal ballot. A great challenge comes to the young people of this decade. They are called to be good citizens, not only of their immediate communities and their country, but also of the world. All nationalities of the world have made their contributions to the society in which we live. All peoples were created equal and should be respected and appreciated by one another. We must learn to live with other nations or we shall perish. Peace must rule and we must learn to have faith in the integrity of our fellowmen. In such an atmosphere harmony may be achieved. We, the Annual Staff of the 1954 Yearbook of the Mead Consolidated School, pledge ourselves to promote understanding and sympathy between nations. Grace Moser

We Will Slemem ei BYRON RAY WIDMAN We dedicate this 1953-1954 Annual to Byron Ray Wid- man, who was fatally injured near Fremont, Nebraska, on September 28, 1953. Byron was president of the Sophomore Class and was a very popular lad in High School. He had a cheerful, pleas- ant disposition, and greeted everyone with a smile. He was highly esteemed by all of his classmates. Byron spent his boyhood days at the farm home north- east of Mead. He was a member of the Marietta Dairy Hustlers and Future Farmers of America and was very much interested in all of their activities. We reverently dedicate this yearbook as a memorial to Byron, who was suddenly taken from our midst just when he was beginning to be a useful citizen.
