'' ' 'Enjoy the show!'' 22 On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon. This year, 1979, is the 10th anniversary of the first moon landing by Apollo 11. This is Astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the moon. w ■ 1 P n r t o e g r r a m The Winter Program was presented on Thursday December 14 in the auditorium. The 7th, 8th and Freshman choruses each sang several selections. Harold Pinkham and Susan Gonzales sang solos. Members of the Freshman chorus also did a 50's-type dance to the theme song from American Bandstand. Fourth hour classes had everything from rock-a-thons to carwashes to send a kiss to raise money. The winning class won the contest with a total of $17.54 per person. They received a pizza party for their efforts. The top ten classes also had a party. 26 open house Seventh grade orientation is a day when the incoming 7th grade students can come and get acquainted with the school and faculty. Many of these were students who came with parents to meet and get a feel for the school. Open House was held on Thursday, Nov. 16. Intermural Champions were determined by several games played. He did the mural above. More of his work can be seen in centry. He also sponsored the student murals that are hanging in the cafeteria. Mr. Boge presents National Art Award to Kem Cox for her winning chalk portrait in 1977. 31 Contemporary Tom and John performed at a school assembly. They sang, played the piano, guitar, and banjo. They de -dined any other information. Jerry Winn from International Lectures presented a magic show for the school. He performed many illusions. All of which astounded his audience. 32 assemblies Janet and Peter Taney performed at a school assembly. Janet demonstrated dances from the Ozark and Appalachian Mts. Peter played the Lumber Jack Doll. Together they play 15 different instruments. Jeff Cornett played an Arp Synthesizer and other electronic music machines at a school assembly. Tryouts were held on Sept 8, over thirty girls tried out and seven were picked. Says Mrs. Tigard of the squad, ' '1 think the girls were really fun to work with and they also worked together well. They showed alot of enthu-siasium and helped build pep. A boy and a girl (Kevin Fox and Ashlie Holt) remembered events throughout the year. An award was given to Cheryl Baker (by Shawn Davenport to Rona Eyres). Dorothy Watkins cheered a short basketball game played by Solomon Guesby and Greg Hephner. Then, Greg and Shawn performed a lovely tango while they remembered a school dance. Finally, a lecture on pygmies was given by Allison Herr, with her pygmies, Vicki Chaffin and Jeff York. This was followed by a nice sales pitch by Kirsten Hadix. Lights were handled by Kim McElhancy and the stage crew. The stage manager and his assistant were respectively, Greg Hephner and Eric Flynn, and the director and her assistant were Pam Williams and Lynn Huffstetler. The Warden and her pris- ► oners.
