Cl 29 We Call Them Leaders of the Pack Point of Order I Student Senators learned forceful use of such terms in parliamentary procedure to im- prove the efficiency of Student Council meetings. One of the many changes in our student government was the re- writing of the constitution to be more advantageous. Also this year, the committees became more involved and fulfilled their purposes. The Grievance committee, under Sharon Lydig, was. directed to working with student suggestions for improve- ment in the school. Todd Ostlind led the Projects com- mittee which coordinated the A.S. B. sponsored activities. The Education and Constitution committees seemed to find a useful role, too. The fearless leaders did more than just that. They sponsor- ed the Homecoming week activities and dance, along with the candy sale, a charity dance and the untraditional Christmas Dance, plus a variety of many other activi- ties throughout the year. Pictured above are the five people who proudly represented Mead at State last June. Andrea Balazs and Peggy Stoneman spent a week in Ellensburg at Girls' State while Dirk Stratton, Jay Torgerson, and Jim Barber spent the following week at Central Washington State College attending Boys' State. Unity Hchieved By Girls League Striding into a new year with fresh novel ideas, the officers made great steps forward in Girls' League activities. An executive council was created to reinforce the harried officers, while Sergeant-at-Arms was changed to Co-Historians. The year got under way with the annual Big-Little Sister picnic at Franklin Park. Twirp Week lent a festival air to Homecoming, featuring various activities to help charge Mead students with enthusiasm for the Big Game. Girls' League also prompted two community service projects, including a canned food drive and a collection for a local needy family at Christmas. Other traditions that continued this yesr were Girl-of-the-Month selection, the Sweetheart dance, the Mother-Daughter tea and the Father-Daughter dessert. The effort toward unity of Mead's was deemed successful by all those involved. A new addition to G1rl's League this year 1S the Executive Council whose members are Lynn Emerson Sharon Mosset, Lundy Smith Gail Stone and Karin Marchant
