'68 - Great Season Coach Hartman and his assistant Mr. Stueve expect Mead to have a good track season this year. Our first track meet in the Valley League proved to be quite thrilling because of a tie with University, the top rated team. His all-star list is headed by Tom Wood, city record holder in the shot putg 6-foot plus high jumper Walt Fernaug sprint star and broad jumper Craig Swiftg two-miler Terry Bestg and Mead's best ever pole vaulter, Greg Luft. Our other track stars have improved very much this year to add to our team point total. This year the javelin and discus have been added to the list of events. Mead has high hopes of sending some representatives to state. 15115661111 VARSITY--FRONT ROW: M. Nevdahl, B. Slater, D, Lebahn, B. Slater, D. Campbell, K. Procter, R Bezdicek. ROW 2: C. Turner, S. The 196 7-68 Panthers displayed the look of the Young Ones , with a sparkling eye to the future. The Panthers met each team with a spirit of great competitiveness. They provided that extra offen- sive punch and proved to be top rebounders. The ball took many unusual bounces for the Panthers, including the 56-54 loss to the Rogers Pirates at the Coliseum and a tremendous 59-52 victory over the mighty Shadle Park Highlanders. With the returning of this year's lettermen, and the participation in a new league, Panthers should really do great next year. Coaches Smithpeters and Gray.
