Football Meads' football team went into action on September 17 after being invited into the city league to make an even number of schools par- ticipating in the valley Merry-Go -Round Game. The first kickoff was West Valley kicking to Mead who held on to the ball and gave us the yardage advantage of 79 to 1 to win the first quarter. In the second quarters' action Gonzaga downed Central Valley which left the two valley schools to battle the third quarter and end- ing with West Valley ahead. , Beginning the final quarter in which Gonzaga and Mead battled for the championship with a close start for both but ending with Gon- zaga on top 12-0. The next night Mead traveled to Colville to participate in another Merry-Go-Round in which they fought long ana hard. But as the quar- ters went by and victories were won. Mead took fourth. In league competition Mead found only one equal. It went through the leagues' five games with only one loss, to Chewelah, for a tie with Deer Park, in obtaining the Northeast Washington Class A Title. During the season Mead played Ephrata who was the number 1 team in the state last year, to a 13-13 tie. Later in the season Mead ventured off into Idaho to play Moscow, a triple A school. Both schools played a hard game but Moscow won '7 -6. For the last game of the season Mead rnet West Valley on November 11 at West Valley. It was an exciting and important game with West Valley coming out on top by a score of 32 to 0. Mead finished a very happy season with a total of 5 wins and 3 losses and a tie for the league cham- pionship. MR. Dues are 50:2 per year. The League is primarily a service organization. The junior and senior girls serve as Big Sisters to incoming girls to help them to become acquainted with other students and with the procedures of the school. The League sends cards and gifts to students and faculty when they are ill. SECOND ROW Sharon Lee, Linda Simpson, Bob McBeth, Odette Gilbert, Terry Wells. Everyone knows that our fall and winter sports program includes football, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and track. However, there is another added to the list also. This sport is Debate. In essence the debate season has no ending or beginning, but is con- tinuous throughout the year. Good argumentation is based upon fact and logic. In order to establish either of these, a debater must have a solid and current knowledge of the subject. This requires constant study and preparation. This years' resolution reads specifically: Resolved that the Federal Government of the United States Should Substantially Increase its Regulation of Labor Unions. Taking the affirmative stance, Mead was represented by Bob McBeth and Terry Wells. On the negative Harriet Templeton and Rosemary Dellwo took on all challengers. The Northwest District League of which our school is a member consists of all the city schoolsg Gonzaga Prep, Marycliff, Little Flower, all the valley schools, Cheney and Mead. At the close of each year any debator can certainly look back with pleasure at the programs he or she has made in the field of personal experience, logical thinking and concrete analyzation of material. ' FRA. The Future Farmers of America has been a very active organization, taking part in a number of contests and trips during the year. The F. F. ANDERSON Class History Entering high school in September of 1956, an enthusiastic group of freshmen was determined to leave an enviable record of activity and scholarship behind them at the termination of a four .year period. They presented the Gal1opade, the dance with the largest attendance of the year, featuring Disc Jockey, Johnny Mack. ln their sophomore year they again were eager beavers, sponsoring a Roller skating party in October. As dignified juniors their interests turned toward more serious thoughts and activities. Home- coming activities, junior -senior prom and picnic honoring the Class of '59 were included in their busy schedule. Then the climax of busy and pleasant high school years found eighty-six seniors looking for- ward to graduation. Winter Dreams, the senior prom, converted the Mead' gym into a won- derland of beauty. Members of the Class of '60 have been participants in activities - sports, drama, music, annual, journalism, F. T. A. , F. N. A. , - and yet over thirty have maintained a better than B average. We look forward to entering college or the vocational field with mixed emotions of regret and anticipation.
