Leading yells at pep assemblies and athletic events, McTigue cheerleaders were the essence of McTigue school spirit. The girls, under the direction of Miss Gaffney, practiced long hours to learn new cheers to spur our ath¬ letic teams on to victory. During the 1970-71 athletic season McTigue had four coaches who directed the sports program. Mr. Petrosini and Mr. Levison coached football, Mr. Montgomery instructed the basketball team, Mr. Schmidt tutored the wrestlers and Mr. Petrosini directed the track team. Mr. Levison also served as athletic director. In addition to teaching the players about sports, the coaches taught them good health habits, good sportsmanship, self- discipline, and the importance of teamwork.
