Arron Caywood, Bill Huston, and Norman Shapiro each had perfect season records including being tournament champions at the Jefferson Invitation Tournament. Tom Garber and Pat Trompeter were also tournament winners. The team won 76% of all matches wrestled with 38.5% of the wins being by pins. The matmen averaged 45.4 team points per match while holding their opponents to a mere 14.9 points. Coach Schmidt’s advice to the parting wrestlers was “ . . . don’t quit now boys; the worst part is out of the way!”
