The 1974 McQuaid Cross-Country team became the finest team in school history. Despite losing the sec- tional crown, we finished the season ranked ninth in the state, while our 133-1 mark midway through the season was good enough for a number two ranking in the state. Our harriers romped to their third con- secutive City-Catholic League title and extended their dual meet win skein to 29. They won five major invita- tional titles, including their second straight Jesuit Championship. However, painful defeat supplemented our diet of victories, as the Knights lost to Greece Ar- cadia, the team that later won the State Championships. The high point of the season was the hurling of ven- erable mentor, Mr. Bradley, into Red Creek following the big McQuaid Invitational win. There was something clean and noble about this team.
