S f 4 Two students slave over geometric problem on blackboard. The importance of mathematics can never be underestimated. Since early times it has been a fundamental method of communication from one man to another. It is a language but it contains no words or phrases. It is a universally accepted language consisting of addition, subtraction, division, and hundreds of other mathematical figures. Therefore, it is no wonder that MHS has offered for many years and still offers various courses of math. Geometry, Algebra I and Il, senior math, and calculus are included in the diversified curriculum. Head men in the MHS math department are Mr. Carl Harris and Mr. Harry Heckelthorn. Mr. Garth Werner complements them by teaching three hours of Algebra. Harris' class is nothing but laughsfl Mr. Werner flashes his familiar grin at the canierzl. 13

'VIr Unruh uses overhead to drive home assignments. Mr Ediger ponders one of his many interesting biology specimens. L BORATORY SCIE CE Mr. Zerger points out molecule to the bamed chemistry class. Laboratory sciences contain all the mysteries, complexities, and wonders of life. From dissecting a frog to determining properties of hydrochloric acid, MHS science courses are invigorating. It offers constant surprise because of its dependence on experiment and discovery. Under the direction of Mr. jay Frazier, Mr. Carl Ediger, and Mr. Garth Werner, biology attracts a great deal of attention and interest. Mr. Paul Zergeris capable direction insures a knowledgeable experience for stu- dents enrolling in Chemistry. The natural world is open to the students eager to uncover its mysteries. Taught by Mr. Roy Unruh, physics gives students the knowledge of the world of un-living objects. Visions ofa winning basketball team cloud Frazier's biological thoughts. l 1 2

FOREIG LA GUAGE Check over your conjugation and declensions, classf' reminds Mrs. Mr. Goering briefs his students on a new point in German grammar. Nirider. Languages taught at MHS serve as a communication tool with foreign tongues. The two modern foreign languages taught are Spanish and German. Miss Marilyn Engle, Mr. Burr Miller, and Mr. Peter Goer ing, instructors, employ techniques in grammar and speaking. Latin is taught by Mrs. Ruth Nirider and not only stresses grammatical aspects, but also brings in cultural and historical emphasis Miss Engle brings in cultural aspects of Mexico to enrich class lectures. Uln Germanyf, muses Mr. Miller, the food is so wonderful! 14
