They have been effective in giving every student greater opportunities for learning so that he will be better prepared to go forward into the future. Without the untiring patronage and munificence of these people, it would not be possible to have the school that we have today. We sincerely wish to extend a token of appreciation to those individuals who have so unselfishly given of their time and efforts to the interests and advancement of McPherson County High School, 1- 4 L A 1- 'li- F 'N r .f 'M ,D-'f 0 . 5-'32 K 0' ,-nfg'ge::'?':' J, ,.,,,f1v,f'--v Q M, W 1 ff' zi 'Y135l Q Q whvgx ww In' -:Wk .d 7 ' ' ' Ev? 3: 'J'-pg' 'Ga' f ftv-aLQ'fx'? dal: xi.-xiq. Our first year we had seven members - Tom Kemp, Sanford Neal, ,Tim Paxton, Dale Pettit, Dale Black, Jackie Kugler, and Lorna Miller. We became full-fledged high school students on September 9, 1960, after our initiation. We were all dressed in long underwear and cowboy boots. The girls wore western hats while the boys wore sunbonnets, and we all carried pails. We gave -the seniors a Thank You party on September 30, 1960. Our freshman class officers were: Tom Kemp - - - - President Dale Pettit - - - - -Vice President Jackie Kugler - - - - Secretary-Treasurer Lorna Miller - - - - News Reporter Mr. Lindahl ---------- Sponsor For our money-making project we sold Telegraph Bulletin subscriptions. We used Mr. Lindahl's Model T for our homecoming float. On August 28, 1961, we began our sophomore year of high school with the same seven members. We elected the following as class officers: Dale Pettit ----------- President Tom Kemp - - - - -Vice President Lorna Miller- - - - Secretary-Treasurer Sanford Neal - - ---- - -News Reporter Mr. Benedict --------- Sponsor For our money-making project we sold Christmas cards. For our homecoming float we used the theme Let's Plow Brady Under. April 13, 1962, we gave a party for the school. We served April 20, 1962, at the Junior-Senior Banquet, Deep South. We were dressed as servants. We were deeply saddened by the death of one of our classmates Jackie Kugler, on that night of April 20, 1962. She passed away suddenly on the way to her home after an asthma attack. We started our junior year September 3, 1962, with six members. Our class officers were: Tom Kemp - - - - President James Paxton - - - - Vice President Lorna Miller - - - - Secretary-Treasurer Mr. Pierce- - - - Sponsor Mr, Gifford ---------- Co-Sponsor We chose our class rings September 3, 1962. To make money we sold magazine sub- scriptions. The theme for our homecoming float was Let's Put The Wolves Into Orbit. November 16 and 17 we presented our Junior Play, Desperate Ambrose, a three-act comedy. At the second semester the membership of our class increased to seven when Diane Traphagan transferred to our school. We honored the seniors April 19, 1963, at the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. We chose Moonlight and Roses as the theme for our banquet. Eight sophomores, dressed in white blouses and pink skirts, served the banquet. Courtesy of GEORGE KAHOE Tryon, Nebraska September 2, 1963, six seniors began their last year of high school. We elected as our class officers: Tom Kemp - - - - - - President Jim Paxton - - - - - - - Vice President Lorna Miller ---------- Secretary-Treasurer Mr. Brown was our class sponsor. We initiated the freshmen September 6, 1963. Each was dressed differently. The girls wore men's outfits and the boys wore women's outfits. On September 20, 1963, we went to North Platte and had our senior pictures taken. James Paxton won the Regents Scholarship and Diane Traphagan won the Betty Crocker l-Iomemaking award. We presented our senior play, The Fakers, a three-act farce, April 3 and 4. We were honored by the juniors on April 17, 1964, at the Junior- Senior Banquet. Our trip to Colorado April 23-26 was enjoyed a great deal by everyone. We stayed at the Elko Motel in Manitou Springs. May 10, 1964, Baccalaureate Services were held at the Tryon Methodist Church. Commencement Exercises for our graduation class were held May 14, 1964. Our speaker was Dr. F, Clark Elkins, President of Cha- dron State College. Thus, our four years at McPherson County High School came to a close. WM! We, the class of 1964, being of sound mind and healthy physique do make this our last will and testament. I, Sanford Neal, will to Maynard Lutes the privilege of sitting in the last seat of the right row of seats, that being the only one large enough to afford room for his long legs. I hope this will keep him from the temptation to let his legs stick out into the aisle, causing some student to fall unexpectedly. I, Dale Pettit, will my athletic ability and my free loving ways to Myron Kugler. Please use them wisely. I, Diane Traphagan, will my fortune of becoming engaged before graduation to Linda Daly. Good Luck! I, Lorna Miller, will my ability to get along with the male population of my class to Nancy Trumbull. It's a struggle but keep trying. I, James Paxton, will my ability to stay our of trouble and get good grades in govern- ment to Larry Paxton. I, Tom Kemp, will my ability to leave my locker door open at all times to anybody who wishes to do so in order to discourage the faculty. We leave to all underclassmen good old M.C. l-I.S, and its surroundings our good grades, wornout books, carved desks, unpaid bills, and the faculty. To the seniors of 19 65 we will all the fun, worries, troubles, and work of planning, preparing, and selling the next edition of the Longhorn. And to the faculty we leave the privilege of shedding a few tears because the finest class they ever knew is leaving McPherson County High School. Courtesy of L. A. TUPPER STAPLETON ENTERPRISE Ringgold, Nebraska Stapleton, Nebraska As we gaze into the crystal ball and view the year of 1974 we find that Dale Pettit went on to college and received his dor:tor's degree. He was then offered a position as professor of psychology at the 'McPherson College. This life was too quiet for Dale so when he was offered a position in Hollywood, he accepted readily. Now Dale lives in Hollywood with his wife, Colleen, and their eight kids. He is co-starring in the T. V, series, Rifleman, at the present. Lorna Miller had quickly changed her last name and is now living on a ranch northeast of Tryon raising children and cattle. Lorna still looks young, slim, and beautiful as ever. Some of the neighbors say it is due to the outdoor life, but others say it is her continuous activity in bowling. lim Paxton graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1968, and put his knowledge and interests together to establish a brewery on the Dismal River. Iim is rolling out 25, O00 barrels of beer a day brewed with that pure sandhill spring water. Just think that Jim realized his fortune when the class of '64 visited Coors Brewery on their sneak trip. Sanford Neal had joined the Marines after high school and is making it his career: Sanford says he likes the leisurely life and high pay of a colonel. Sanford also owns one-third interest in the P. K,N, Brewery on the Dismal River which comes in handy more ways than one. Diane Traphagan was, of course, married shortly after graduation in 1964. A few years later she and her husband inherited a tremendous sum of money, and since then they have been traveling abroad in the summer and living in Arizona the rest of the time. Tom Kemp just won the world champion bareback title for the second time. He wants to win it one more time so he and each of his two sons will have a gold buckle. He was first rodeo performer to make 3200, 000 in a single season which he invested in the P.K, N. Brewery. Tom now also owns a third interest in the brewery, X! , t, , mi E9 4 +1 affair' CLASS COLORS: Orchid and Gold CLASS FLOWER: Rose CLASS MOTTO: Don't itch for success, scratch for it!
