World of... Dedicated to motion edication is the key word for the lady volleyball team members; for this fall sport, training must begin the semester before. In the Spring of 1987, the McNeese volleyball team began weight training, conditioning and skill drills under third year coach Cheryl Bourgeois. Pre-season practice began in mid-August when the players returned to begin preparation for the September 8 opening at Rice. Of the 13 member squad, only six players returned from the previous sea- son. Among these members were MVP Moxie Sinclair, seniors Margaret Hayde- land and Karen Owens, and juniors Michelle Richards and Shelly Waits. This relatively young team faced a trying season; though not entirely suc- cessful, they gained much-needed expe- rience to carry over into next season. Coach Bourgeois felt she had ‘‘a very good defensive team’”’ but the players ‘‘had dif- ficulty in running the offense with any con- sistency.’ She attributed this problem to the fact that the members had not had enough playing time together and were simply inexperienced in collegiate play. Six players earned places on the McNeese honor roll, three of who were nominated for the National Collegiate Women’s Athletic Award. They included Margaret Haydel, a senior majoring in health and physical education, Karen Ow- ens, a senior majoring in health and phys- ical education with a minor in special ed- ucation, and Moxie Sinclair, a sophomore accounting major.
