Biggest band ever at MSU... . McNeese State University has a band to be extremely proud of this year. The MSU Cowboy Band has more playing members this year than in any previous year. ‘Almost every section has doubled,” said Band Director Dennis Hopkins about his group of 207. There are 120 freshmen and transfer students. Mr. Hopkins said that the band has received members from almost every school the Cowboys played last year. New members have come from West Texas State, Sam Houston State, the University of Houston, the University of Arkansas, Pan American, Corpus Christi, Northeast and Northwest Louisiana Universities. Bobby Fayard was so impressed with the Cowboy Band in their halftime performance at the Independence Bow! that he left Southern Miss. to play with McNeese this year. Among the new members are a few professional musicians, one who has played with the Contemporary gospel group “Truth,” and another who is a graduate of Princeton University now working on aaa 7 his master’s. Dennis Hopkins Freshman Mike Junkroski said that he had worked some with the PIMGSe MSU band last year and he could feel things starting to build almost like a rebirth. “From the first rehearsal this year | could tell that this is sy an organization | definitely want to be a part of and | know everyone os else in the band feels the same way,” Junkroski said. Senior band member Mark Broussard said, “Usually when you want to increase the size of a band as much as it has increased this year the standards are lowered, but because of the recruiting efforts of Mr. Hopkins every single person in the band is more than able to carry his load.” At the beginning of rehearsals the group agreed that they would have to make many compromises because of their large number. The Cowboy band members also agreed to make the necessary sacrifices to make their band the best in the country. With a glorious attitude of pride, the MSU Cowboy band will really be something to Kevin Johnson see and hear Drum Major : Percussion Shannon Badeaux David Brady Keith Bruce Donald Ray Ceasar Steve Cousin Scott Cousin Scott Dyer Brent Fetzer Judith Gauthier Thomas Guillot Ellen Issac Jeffrey Jenkins Mike Junkroski Nelson LeDoux Andrea LeJeune Taylor Mayes Dwayne McCoy Susie McMillan Kevin Newton Shawn Quinn Stephanie Richardson Gina Rodgers Jeffrey Smith Leslie Sowell Paddi Tidwell ee 4 2 mM nm AU Trombone Katie Batchelor Madeline Bordelon Larry Brown Timothy Burge Roger Cornwell Bill Daigle Jolene Dupnick Richard Gonzales Ricky Gonzalez John Goode Leigh Hausey Van Landry Dan Morgan Darryl!
