The McNeese Powerlifting team, coached by Chad DeRousselle also a lifter on the team, is a newly formed organization here at M.S.U. The Powerteam is becoming known throughout the Southland Con- ference and its reputation is definitely earned. The team is also involved in community affairs. Earlier this season they gave an exhibition in the Prien Lake Mall, which was a huge success for participants and observers alike. The McNeese powerlifting team is young, they are only in their third year, but they more than make up for their youth with their talent. The Power-team is good and they are beginning to gain the respect they deserve, both as athletes and as involved students. 258 Sports x

Dahmer, Laurie Greene, Mike D McNeese State’s Laurie Greene is now the holder of a national collegiate weight lifting record. She set the record during the re- cent state championship matches in Monroe where she won the Louisiana State Women’s Col- legiate title for her 112-pound weight division. The record she set in Monroe was for the deadlift, doing 281 pounds and breaking the existing record by six pounds. She also tied the national collegiate record for total weight with a 633-pound accumulation. This record setting performance qualified Greene for next year’s national championships.
