Coweglrl Basketball The 1981-82 basketball season for the McNeese Cowgirls will not be remembered as one for a great won-loss record. In fact, the Cowgirls finished the year with the first losing mark in the school’s seven-year history at 14-17. But not everything was on a negative note during the year as there were several great in- dividual efforts that led to Cowgirl records. The most noted record setter was junior forward Pat ‘Shoney”’ Jean who went on a scoring rage throughout the season eventually leading her to eclipse her own single season scoring total. She finished the year with 647 points breaking her own school record of 613 which she set just one year ago. Jean also finished the season averaging 23.1 points per game and 13.1 rebounds which placed her among the national leaders in the NCAA in both categories. There were plenty of bright moments for forward Christine Sheridan, who ended her four-year Career averaging 12.9 points per game while scoring 401 points during the season. She had seven games of 20 or more points during the season to finish her career with 1,421 points. Two other Cowgirls also finished their careers as Cowgirls this season with Ann Roubique and Pauline Habetz putting the finishing touches on their four year terms. The season also brought to an end the coaching career of Margie Hinton who Wrapped up her five year span at McNeese with an overall mark of 94-58 and during that time sent her squads to the regional playoffs three times.
