IN MEMORY OF CLAY CARROLL 5 re. ye WE ang a 7 This section is dedicated to Clay Carroll, a Radio and Television major and defensive tackle, Starter for the Cowboys in 1978, 1979, and 1980. Clay was selected as the outstanding defensive player in the 1979 In- 4 dependence Bowl game. He was the All-Southland Conference selection in 1980, and ABC Sports had contacted — ; him t o provide an audition tape for a sports-casting job. The name of the Outstanding Student Award in Radio and Television has been changed to the Clay Carroll Award in honor of him. Clay approached his academic life the same way he approached his sports life. He wanted to do his best, and. it was this notion that made Clay an enthusiastic student, an eminent football player and a warm, friendly person. It was his enthusiasm for life and his congenial personality that endeared him here at McNeese. And although Clay’s life was taken in a fatal car accident on August 1, 1981, his memory lives on here, through his football and — academic achievements, and through the friends who revered him. 192 « Sports a
