In the Burton Coliseum on Nov. 29, the McNeese Rodeo Club held its second Annual Student Body Rodeo, and the following week the Ninth Annual McNeese NIRA Rodeo was held. A totem pole which was donated to the department of Visual Arts by Michael Elliott of Sulphur was taken from its base and reappeared one week later just as mysteriously as ithad disappeared. A special airing of the 1978 MESSIAH was presented by radio station KAOK which served as the flagship station The program was carried by stations across the nation ar overseas. The program wa: heard as far away as Vermor New Hampshire, Montana, A zona, Pennsylvania, and Alaska.

Area merchants cooperated with SUB by furnishing clothes and accessories for one of the finest, most contemporary fashion shows at McNeese. Coordinator of the show was Franet Meyer who began plan- ning the show early in the fall semester. Six MSU students repre- sented McNeese publications at the annual National Council of College Publications Advi- sors Seminar in Houston. On the weekend of Oct. 24, Kappa Alpha celebrated its ninth birthday with “Grande Manger.” Plans for a 3.7 million dollar physical education facility were released by Paul Ritter, director of Planning and Facili- ties. They included renovation of the arena, addition of three - basketball courts, four rac- quetball courts, storage, weight lifting equipment, offices, and dressing rooms. To be a part of the new facili- ties will be an olympic-sized swimming pool. 5 ROTC held the annual Tur- key Shoot Nov. 17-18 for the Thanksgiving contest, and Dec. 15-16 for the Christmas contest. According to Dr. Thomas Leary, a 40-ft. rappelling tower for military science students would be built through dona- tions from several community- minded firms and organiza- tions.

Marking a first in the 36-year history of ROTC at McNeese was the promotion of Lt. Col. Carroll W. Shaddock Jr. to the rank of full colonel. He was the first professor and head of mn ilitery science at McNeese to be promoted to the rank of colonel while assigned to that position. Early in the spring semester, SUB sponsored ‘Sea Level,” a group founded from the remnants of the Allman Brothers Band. They per- formed Wed. Jan. 24 in the McNeese Auditorium.
