The first black greek letter fraternity was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York on Dec. 4, 1906. Since 1906 there has been over 10,000 brothers initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha. The purpose of Alpha Phi Alpha is scholarship, manly deeds, and love for all mankind. — Alpha Phi Alpha became active again in 1974 on the McNeese State University campus and died out the year afterward. It became active again in the fall of 1978. During this time Charles Neal served as the student president of the chapter.
