1968 was a great year for the McNeese tennis team. The Cowboys dominated the court from 1958 through 1961 and then seemed to fade. In 1968, under the fine coaching of Jim Brown, the Cowboys again emerged as the GSC champions. The outlook for 1969 is optimistic, as the only letterman not returning is Wayne Bono of Lake Charles. Let's look for a repeat per- formance of 1968, and hope the Cowboys set the pace. N, , . 1 ' , 51 o .5 . . I' '. . 1 MARCUS SYLVESTER' f,e,hm,n from Lake Charles. The Cowboy golfers will face a demanding schedule in 1969 under the coaching efforts of Don Scott. The team of 1968 gave what could be a preview of a return of McNeese to golfing success. The team fin- ished second in the Houston Invitational, and won the first tournament for McNeese in nine years at the Sam Houston Classic in Huntsville, Texas. They went on to finish third in the GSC, and sixth in the NCAA small college tournament in Beaumont. Bennie Holcombe, returning sophomore from Lake Charles, finished sixth in Beaumont and qualified for the NCAA university division tournament in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The only member of last year's team not returning is Frank DiG-eorge of Sulphur, 1968's team captain and MVP. This year a deeper and stronger team will take the field for McNeese. The Cowboys left a record of seven wins and four losses in their fall competi- tion. Johnny Holliday, a freshman from Baton Rouge, led the team with an average of 75.3. lt looks like a good year for golf at McNeese, so let's go Cow- boys, SOCK-IT-TO-EM . . . ,J- ill! 21 ri , .Hi 0' -TC 5 fait: Dean Ellis Guillory presenting MVP trophy to Frank DiGeorge BENNIE HOLCOMBE, led team scoring in 1968.
