The McNeese State College Ware Rifles is a local honorary drill so- ciety, named in honor of Colonel Charles,S. Ware, a former professor of military science. Colonel Ware's tenure of duty at McNeese occurred between 1946 and the outbreak of hostilities in Korea in 1951. He was transferred to that theater of opera- tions where, in April, 1952, Colonel Ware died in service of his country. Colonel Ware left an outstanding military record and an honored heri- tage for members of the drill team to follow. This year, the Ware Rifles participat- ed in several drill meets in the South against many maior colleges and uni- versities. These events, plus march- ing in area parades and assisting with homecoming and pre-game ceremonies at McNeese home foot- ball games, provided these men an opportunity to demonstrate their military excellence and the develop- ment of teamwork.
