Baseballers, 14-10 The 1969 McNary Baseballers finished the season with a 14-10 win-loss record. Coached by Mr. Vic Backlund, the Celtic nine com- pleted district competition with a record of seven wins, and five losses, ifaulting them into third place. Especially exciting was theldefeat of eventual league champion Cor- vallis High. Though the Celtics failed to make it into state com- petition, they did manage to place four players on the All-District first team. Among those receiving this hon- or were pitcher Chris Barker, outfielder Jerry Kurtz, catcher Ethan Bergman, and shortstop Karl Meier. Other outstanding performances were turned in by pitcher Chris Barker, who tosised three shut-outs during league play, and Karl Meier, ywho set a school record for fewest field- ing errors during, a season. Team captaiiw and third baseman Gerry Bennett was lost for the season due to a broken wrist bone which he received during ihe first North Salem game. According to Coach BacklYnd, '4Gerry,s loss was a blow to our championship ho es. Coach Backliund was very optimistic about future seasons.
