23 Aquatic Record Set The 1968-69 Aquatic playing field was littered with the remnants of past records, as the boys squad won only two meets and the girls none. Team captains, Ben Dake C64 points and 4 recordsl and Cheryl Van Cleave Q46 points and 4 recordsj led the teams in smashing 23 records. New record holders are Nancy Ken- nedy, 50 yd. freestyle, Gayle Wood, 100 yd. freestyle, Rick Amsbury, 60 yd. freestyle, Denise Fox, 50-60 yd. backstoke, Cheryl Van Cleave, 50-60- 100 yd. butterfly, Rich Lamkin, 100 yd. butterfly, Gayle Wood, 80 yd. 1n- dividual Medley, Ben Dake, 160 yd. LLL ' 9' ' ,la+f wW 7' V f,,,, 'Y,f2ggil ' 2-'4 Z- i Double Double Toil and Triumph For the second consecutive year the 1969 McNary basket ball team brought prestige and honor to the Celtic blue md white by sharing final honors at the state basketball tourna ment. Losing only to eventual champs, Grant High ot Port land, the Celts captured the 3rd place award. The mighty Celtics who entered the tournament with a record ot' 18 wins-4 losses emerged from competition with an impressive 21-5 record. McNary tourney participants also distinguished themselves by winning the coveted sportman ship award for the second time. Gary Erickson, lVlcNary's high scoring guard was one of only two players to be selected unanimously to the state A-l all-star team, and one ot' five in recent ye Irs to have rc ceived the honor twice. Gary also distinguished himself by scoring over 1000 points during his three years at McNary Among other honors Gary topped all 1969 Valley League players with 336 points. The Celtics managed to place two other players in the top ten scoring category. They were Scott Wilder with 228 points and Mike Fleer with 215 points. During regular season competition the Celtics captured the District 8 A-1 title by winning all but tour ot their sche duled games. 84
