The Birth of a The change from Piperettes to Celtans marked the emergence of a drill team rather than a dance group, said Mrs. Carol D. Ritter advisor and director of the drill team. The purpose of Celtans is to provide half time entertainment at basketball games, develop poise and good grooming, and to promote lea- dership, cooperation and scholarship. Mrs. Ritter said that this year they tried to become a service group as Well as a performing group. Chosen as officers of the team, which consists only of seniors, were co-captains Judy Berg and Kathy Neuswanger. President was Dawn rill Team Bauer, vice-president Peggy Enningag and secretary-treasurer Janelle Meier. On December 14, the group per- formed at North Salem for McNary's Homecoming game. They provided entertainment at Willamette Univer- sity on February 15, and during the State Basketball Tournament, the Celtans were invited to perform. They demonstrated their precision talents March 21 and 22 before tourney capacity crowds. Squad leaders responsible for organizing the girls were Jane Sundet, Janice Pyle, Peggy Enninga, Dawn Bauer, Kathi Newswanger, and Judy Berg. . i uni kr: . W-il Ri7.Yfli?i
