It consequently has more vari- ety offering students courses in English, foreign languages, humanities, drama, and speech. English is taught on all three levels. Humanities, a new addition to the department, is available to seniors in place of English. Russian has joined forces with German, French, Spanish, and Latin, providing a more complete choice of foreign languages. Speech and drama classes gave students opportunities to develop talents in speaking and acting. They also offer the student body and the public various productions in the dra- matic arts.

Leading the Way Exploding population intensified the duties of McNary's ad- ministration. With an increase of 534 students, creating an enroll- ment of 1574, principal Gurnee Fleasher and vice principals, Ernest Davenport and Robert Voigt worked out a smooth- running program to meet added demands. Hiring 40 new teachers was Mr. Fleasheris main job along with general supervision ofthe entire school. Mr. Davenport and Mr. Voigt shared the responsibilities of vice principal which in- cluded planning and supervising curriculum, providing individual guidance and discipline, and registering students.
